The deer hunter: Stag turns the tables by charging a deerstalker, snagging his rifle in its antlers and running off with it in the Czech Republic

  • Man was taking part in hunt in a forested area near Horní Planá,  Czech Republic
  • A dog spooked beast and it ran towards a hunter, ripping his sleeve with antler
  • Sent the rifle – which was hanging on the man’s shoulder – sliding down his arm
  • The ‘fortunately unloaded’ weapon got caught on the deer’s antlers as it ran

A stag turned the tables on a deerstalker by snagging the hunter’s rifle in its antlers and running away with it.

The man was taking part in a hunt in a forested area near Horní Planá in the southwestern Czech Republic last week when the group spotted the animal.

But before they could shoot, a dog spooked the beast and it ran towards one of the hunters.

Its antler got caught on the deerstalker’s left sleeve and ripped it, sending the rifle – which was hanging on the man’s shoulder – sliding down his arm.

The weapon – which police say was ‘fortunately unloaded’ – got caught on the deer’s antlers as it ran, and has still not been recovered.

Regional police wrote on their website: ‘The deer was startled by a dog. It stood up and dashed straight at the hunter, running past him and ripping the left sleeve of his jacket.

‘The rifle hanging on the hunter’s left shoulder, fortunately unloaded, slid onto the deer’s antlers and disappeared with the animal.

Some time later, another hunter saw the deer with the rifle still in its antlers about 0.6 miles from the site.

The hunters searched the forest but they did not find the rifle. Police are still hunting it down.
