Staines property bought from £13k turned to £4m dream home

The wonder of Michaelangelo’s ‘Creation of Adam’ in the Sistine Chapel has been recreated in the splendour of Staines by one property developer, who has spent the last 30 years sculpting his seven-bedroom bungalow into a modern day work of art.

The property, which belongs to Trevor Wynne-Jones, is situated in the village of Wrasbury. Since the 1980s, Mr Wynne-Jones has drawn inspiration from Venetian and Romantic architecture to help his mission to create the perfect house, something he has admitted may never be achieved.

But now he is selling up his home for a bargain £4million. He knocked down the old house he bought on the same plot for £13,500 in 1966 and has since built a property fit for a king, even if it is an ‘ongoing project’.

A team of dedicated builders are on site permanently to help bring his dreams to life, with the only modern room underground, where Mr Wynne-Jones plans his next grand design.

‘I am a romantic and I simply love beautiful things. This has been my chance to create something of beauty. It’s as if I am an artist painting a picture,’ he told the Telegraph.

Trevor Wynne-Jones is a property developer and has been working on his home in Staines over the last 30 years . The house is an ongoing project, Trevor is heavily influenced by Venetian art and the Romantic style, he also has a passion for the Napoleonic wars

The master bedroom in the £4million property is finished with a lemon haze and the grand bed taking centre stage. A luxury curtain can be draped around the bed. Art inspired by ancient Greek legends is painted on the walls, including a hand-painted recreation of John William Waterhouse's Hylas and the Nymphs

Along with its seven bedrooms there are six bathrooms and four reception rooms, all covered with Renaissance-style frescoes.

One of the main reception rooms is based around the nearby Windsor Castle, with a vaulted ceiling, a huge stone fireplace and two stunning thrones fit for a king placed either side.

An iron spiral staircase swings up from the master bedroom, which is painted and a yellow haze finish that glistens off the walls. Art inspired by ancient Greek legends, including a hand-painted recreation of John William Waterhouse’s Hylas and the Nymphs, is draped on the wall along with a copy of Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam from the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

The aptly-named Venice Lounge is one of the grander rooms in the house, with lemon walls, a marble fireplace and life-size bronze statues.

A replica of the Michelangelo's 'The Creation of Adam' has been added into the property and sits on top of a grand fireplace, with metal horses sat either side

Arches and pillars help to add a touch of taste into the room while paintings of Venetian settings add to the colour scheme and tranquil tone.

The house has been transformed into its current form without the help of an architect or garden designer, which would explain why some plans – such as the large hole he excavated for his sunken garden – have not been well received by neighbours.

He has even been taken to court by the local council and hit with fines, something he dismissed as ‘slaps on the wrist’.

But the high-quality finishes in the house cannot be dismissed, with every door made out of heavy, solid wood and a vintage-style bricks and brought in from a Portland stone quarry near Bristol to give it a period finish.

Another grand construction is well underway at the property – a 45-seater amphitheater which is touching tribute to his wife Hilary, who passed away last November.

Soren Ravaux, director at Waterview estate agents, who is jointly marketing the property with Dexters, said: ‘He has always been a property developer on a large scale and classical architecture is his passion.

‘Whilst he couldn’t really convey this through his commercial work, he has indulged his love of this on a personal scale. All the thoughts in the design are his own.

‘The building has grown organically – there is always something going on. He runs his commercial business out of there.

‘He also holds private concerts for friends – Chopin recitals and jazz recitals and the like in the grounds.’

Mr Wynne Jones is selling up his property to pursue a new romantic relationship.

He said: ‘I have a friend – a contessa – but I don’t want to say too much about her. If things work out I’d like us to settle in Venice.’
