Stan Originals FIRST LOOK: Streaming service announces new lineup of shows – including The True History of the Kelly Gang starring Russell Crowe and Charlie Hunnam

Stan has confirmed its lineup of Original shows for the summer, including historical epic The True History of the Kelly Gang, starring Russell Crowe and Charlie Hunnam. 

Inspired by Peter Carey’s novel of the same name, The True History of the Kelly Gang will be released on January 26, and follows the life of infamous bushranger Ned Kelly.

Russell and Charlie join the likes of Nicholas Hoult and George Mackay in the thrilling drama, but that’s not all that’s coming up on Stan this summer.

Packed to the Rafters star Ryan Corr is back in new thriller series The Commons, which will be released on December 25. 

Also starring the likes of David Lyons and Joanne Froggatt, The Commons is set in the not-too distant future and explores the impacts of climate change.

On January 1, eight-part thriller series The Gloaming starring Emma Booth and Ewen Leslie will be available to stream on Stan.

The two actors play police detectives who are connected via a childhood tragedy. 

Meanwhile, season two of The Other Guy will begin from December 13, and stars Matt Okine and Harriet Dyer and directed by Gracie Otto. 

It follows the story of a radio host who lands back on the dating scene after a failed ten-year relationship.

Meanwhile, Charlie Hunnam, 39, – who is known for playing Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller in Sons of Anarchy – spoke to Collider recently about The True History of the Kelly Gang.

He was joined by co-star George Mackay. The pair spoke about working with on the film and whether they knew about the story of infamous bushranger Ned Kelly before taking on their roles. 

George said he had an idea, as his father is Australian, while Charlie said he heard about it through ‘watching film.’

Charlie also spoke about why the story of Ned Kelly is appealing to fans and so enduring. 

‘Essential stories want to be told over and over and people want to see those essential stories over and over,’ Charlie said.
