The lead role in Disney’s ‘Frozen the Musical’ has shared what a day in her busy schedule looks like and what products she swears by for removing heavy stage makeup.
Jemma Rix, 37, is preparing to bring the renowned musical theatre production to Adelaide on May 26 having toured much of Australia’s east coast in 2021 as Elsa.
The Melbourne-born singer and performer got her start working at Universal Studios in Osaka, Japan, for a year before she toured as Elphaba in Wicked for seven years.
A household name, Jemma has opened up about the daily practices that help her stay in shape to perform three double shows a week.

HOW DID SHE GET THE ROLE?
Jemma is best known for her role as Elphaba – the Wicked Witch of the West – in the Broadway musical show Wicked.
‘Idina Menzel originated Elphaba in Wicked and also Elsa in Frozen the movie, so I’m following in her footsteps in Australia with getting to play both of these iconic roles,’ the 37-year-old told FEMAIL.
It was a rigorous six-month auditioning process to get Elsa in Frozen.
During the final audition round Jemma got to do some scene work with the current Anna, Courtney Monsma, and the pair felt an instant sisterly chemistry on stage.
‘We are so grateful to be able to work and share the stage together every day. We honestly feel like real sisters now,’ she said.

WHAT DOES HER DAY LOOK LIKE?
The performances are on in the evenings so it gives Jemma time to enjoy a hearty breakfast and walk with her dog Cherry before she needs to start warming up her voice.
‘I like to sleep in until at least 9am. My mornings start slow and with a good coffee in hand,’ she said.
‘I go to the gym around lunchtime. Catch up on emails or chat with friends in the afternoon. Meditate for 30 minutes and then head into work.’
As there are three double-show days in a week Jemma doesn’t workout in the traditional sense on those days so she can conserve energy.
‘But on the other four days I go to the gym and run on the treadmill, use the cross trainer and do some arm weights,’ she said.

As for her fuel Jemma describes her food choices as those of a ‘creature of habit’, so she always has peanut butter on toast with a strong coffee she makes in a French press.
‘I normally just have a banana for lunch because I have to eat my dinner at around 4pm,’ she said. ‘My body needs time to digest before the show that night.
‘My go-to for dinner is a Guzman y Gomez burrito, but on my days off I love to have Ramen or Pho. They can be spicy so I save them for my days off when I don’t have to sing.’
WHAT’S HER SKINCARE AND MAKEUP ROUTINE?
Jemma describes her skin as ‘super sensitive’ so she uses La-Roche Posay products because they are so gentle and hydrating.
‘To take off my Elsa make up I use Hydro Oil from Kryolan. It gently removes the makeup and my skin feels nourished and protected,’ she said.
‘For my hair I use the Kerastase Nutritive range.’
To relax Jemma will switch something on Netflix or Disney+, have a shower then jump into bed and read a book.
‘I’m currently reading The Alchemist. Reading before bed always soothes me and helps me to fall asleep,’ she said.
Jemma stars as Elsa in Frozen the Musical and will appear in Adelaide from May 26, 2022, before heading to Perth from August 2022. Tickets can be purchased here.
