Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker: Stormtroopers have jetpacks

They have always been considered a laughing stock for their inability to shoot an easy target, even when they’re right in front of them.

But it seems the stormtroopers in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker are no laughing matter, as they took to the sky on jetpacks in an intense new clip from the film which was shared on Monday.

The First Order soldiers were chasing down Daisy Ridley’s Rey, and her fellow Rebel Alliance pals Finn (John Boyega), Poe (Oscar Isaac), C3PO (Anthony Daniels) and BB8 through the desert.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker: Stormtroopers took to the sky on jet packs to chase down Daisy Ridley’s Rey in action-packed new clip, which was released on Monday

The clip opens with the heroes escaping what appears to be an small village on the back of speeders, with a stormtrooper spotting them and telling his men: ‘We’ve spotted the fugitives.’

As they try to make their escape, the group are soon inundated with blasts from the Phaser guns on the stormtroopers’ vehicles.

Rey uses the Blaster given to her by Han Solo to fight them off, while Chewbacca uses his Bowcaster to do the same.

Despite their best efforts, the stormtroopers deflect Rey and Chewie’s shots with ease before part of their vehicles bounce up to propel the stormtrooper into the air.

The trooper’s jetpack then fired up, making them speed towards the group and leaving their fellow soldier behind.

In shock C3PO shouts ‘oh! they fly now,’ as Finn reiterates the sentiment by asking in disbelief ‘they fly now?’ before Poe makes the same remark despondently.

Last week, Daisy revealed Rey’s journey in The Rise Of Skywalker is so ‘heavy’ there were moments she struggled to deal with the emotional toll.

The actress, 27, discussed the film with Entertainment Weekly, and said: ‘It’s a heavy story for Rey. There were days where I was literally like, “I can’t do this, I’m so tired, I don’t know if I can like reach that emotion again.”‘

Her character is ‘driving her own thing’ according to Daisy, and is keen not to do ‘what other people are telling her to do.’

Meanwhile director JJ claimed Rey and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) are ‘two sides of the same coin,’ as he said of their bond: ‘Even when they’re not together they still haunt each other in a way — they know they are each other’s unresolved business.’

He went on to admit that work is still ongoing on the film, and that it is ‘literally a practical race to get it finished’, but also said it’s still easier to make than The Force Awakens was in 2015.

Claiming the ‘ambition’ for the forthcoming film is far greater than the seventh film in the Skywalker saga, which he also directed, JJ was full of praise as he gushed that ‘everyone is doing the best work I’ve ever seen anyone do.’
