Stars prepare for 2018 National Television Awards

It is one of the biggest nights on their career calendar – and the stars of the small screen certainly turned out for the National Television Awards on Tuesday night.

TV personality Michelle Heaton showed off her enviably gym-honed frame in a slinky petrol blue gown, while Rochelle Humes stood out in a playful lilac mini number, as she posed for cameras beside her suited and booted husband Marvin.

ITV is broadcasting the star-studded event, fronted by returning host Dermot O’Leary, live from London’s O2 Arena at 7.30pm.

Rochelle Humes and her husband Marvin first dazzled on the red carpet – with the former girlband star showing off her enviably leggy figure in a thigh-skimming purple dress.

The frock pulled into a chic one-shouldered style, before extending down into a glamorous train far longer than the mini dress from the statement sleeve.

Celebrities had taken to Instagram earlier in the evening to document the exciting getting ready process, ahead of the glitzy evening.

Susanna Reid and Zara Holland both proved ready and raring to go as they were among the first to share snaps of their looks – with the brunette dazzling in a saucy plunging red number, while the Love Island star slipped into a similar ensemble of navy blue.

Pucker up: However, Ruth's evening was somewhat tainted by the fact her on and off screen husband Eamonn Holmes was forced to stay at home sick, and miss out on the festivities at London's O2 Arena

Meanwhile This Morning’s Ruth Langsford matched her ITV co-star in an equally glamorous red gown, which pulled into a classically chic bardot neckline, and co-ordinating drop earrings.

However, the former Strictly star was not as excited for the event as she could be, as her husband Eamonn was forced to stay at home due to illness.

The Northern Irish presenter, 58, shared a funny video of his wife getting ready for the festivities on his Instagram, while he posed beside her in his dressing gown.

Sweet: The presenter, clad in his dressing gown, wrote on Instagram: 'One of us is off to The @NTA Showbiz Ceremony and the other is staying at home poorly, uncared for abandoned, coughing endlessly . Can u guess which of us is doing what ?'

Clearly disappointed, he wrote in the caption: ‘One of us is off to The @NTA Showbiz Ceremony and the other is staying at home poorly, uncared for abandoned, coughing endlessly . Can u guess which of us is doing what ?’

The favourites then posed for a sweet selfie before Ruth left for the event – with the beauty kissing her husband goodbye on the cheek, while he pulled a sad face for the camera.

The presenting gig helped launch Scarlett’s TV career in 2017, as she went onto front the revamped Streetmate dating show, as well as landing a gig on Saturday Night Takeaway.

Meanwhile, Love Island stars Kem Cetinay and Chris Hughes will be hosting the glittering red carpet.

TV double act Ant & Dec are this year contending for a record-breaking 17th National Television Award in a row in the Presenting category.

They will face strong competition from presenting pals Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield to be voted the nation’s favourite again.

Not only that, but This Morning and Dancing On Ice’s Holly and Phil will have to face off against each other, as individuals and not a double act.

Ant & Dec will also be able to pick up a gong in the Challenge Show category, with their reality show I’m A Celebrity.

Finally, they have a two more chances at victory in with an inaugural entertainment award that acknowledges their game show Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, and Britain’s Got Talent recognised in the Talent Show category.

Similarly, as a duo, Holly and Phil may be able to claw back some awards glory by picking up the Daytime gong for This Morning.

Currently, The Drama gong looks too close to call with infidelity potboiler Doctor Foster and date rape drama Liar up against medical stalwarts Call The Midwife and Casualty.

Popular fantasy series Game Of Thrones will also be hoping to take the prize home to Westeros.

It is a clash of the acting titans for Drama Performance, with Hollywood actor Tom Hardy from Taboo and Broadchurch’s leading man David Tennant tackling actresses Sheridan Smith, Jenna Coleman and Suranne Jones.

The Great British Bake Off will be hoping to take home the Challenge Show trophy after its move from the BBC to Channel 4, but faces tough competition from I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, MasterChef and last year’s breakout show Love Island.

The new Crime Drama category recognises a year when primetime mysteries became the nation’s favourite TV genre. The shortlist pits Line Of Duty against Broadchurch, Little Boy Blue and Sherlock.

Other categories include Talent Show, Serial Drama, Comedy and Newcomer.

This year the NTAs are paying tribute to the late Sir Bruce Forsyth by naming a major prize after him.

Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, The Graham Norton Show, Celebrity Juice and All Round To Mrs Brown’s have the honour of competing for the inaugural Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award.

Special honour: Sir Bruce Forsyth, who passed away in 2017, will be honored in a new entertainment category
