It’s state versus state, mate versus mate.
As the fierce State of Origin rugby league rivalry between the New South Wales Blues and Queensland Maroons builds in lead up to Wednesday night’s series opener in Melbourne, so too does the battle of the memes.
Social media has already begun to be flooded with hilarious memes since the new-look squads were announced a week ago.
Jarryd Hayne quickly found himself the target of trolls online, with one doctored image showing the 23-game NSW representative proudly holding a Maroons jersey.
‘It’s always been a dream of mine to play fullback for Queensland,’ the meme joked, alluding to his recent history of switching sporting codes.

A Biggest Losers-themed meme of the NSW Blues side has been an old favourite in recent years
‘Well he was instrumental in Queensland’s series win last year while playing for the blues,’ one fan commented.
Another added: ‘You guys need all the help you can get so you can borrow him.’
The last time the Blues held the State of Origin trophy aloft was in 2014, and before that, in 2005.
Which is why Queensland brought back an old favourite; The Biggest Loser meme.
‘Here we go again, another mini series of The Biggest Loser starting this Wednesday night live & free on Channel 9,’ the meme’s Facebook caption read.

The NSW Blues have only won the State of Origin series once since 2005
The Blues have named 11 debutants in a vastly different line-up from previous years – the most debutants in one game for the sky blues since State of Origin kicked off in 1980.
Dominated by the Maroons for the last 13 years, new NSW coach Brad Fittler has named a new look Blues squad in a desperate bid to break their losing drought.
On the NRL Memes Facebook page, one meme likens a photo of the Blues squad to Aussie boy band Human Nature in similar attire.

‘I thought the NSW team looked familiar,’ the post states.
One man commented: ‘ Human Nature has put up better hits.’
There’s also a meme of both captains, NSW’s Boyd Cordner and Queensland’s Greg Inglis photoshopped in a Blues jersey, who was born and raised in NSW territory.
‘Either way, a New South Wales Welshman will hold the S.O.O trophy,’ the post states.
One woman commented: ‘That is classic!! Best thing I have seen all day.’

There’s no shortage of Queensland memes either, as the Maroons will be without Slater, Cooper Cronk, Johnathan Thurston and Cameron Smith.
One of the best is The Simpson’s themed meme of Maroons reject Daly Cherry-Evans pretending to be Ben Hunt picking up his Maroons jersey.
The Manly playmaker had been vying for the Queensland halfback jersey vacated by Cooper Cronk but was overlooked for St George Illawarra’s Ben Hunt.

Cherry-Evans also missed out on a Maroons bench utility spot with North Queensland’s out-of-sorts Michael Morgan given the nod by selectors.
Despite the number of rookies, NSW go into the season opener as hot favourites with Sportsbet pricing them at $1.50, while Queensland are at $2.70.
Game one is at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday night.
