State-wide Amber Alert issued for 18-month-old Dallas boy

A state-wide Amber Alert has been issued for a 18-month-old Texas boy who was allegedly snatched from his bed in the middle of the night.

Cedrick Jackson, who also goes by CJ, was last seen shortly after 11pm on Tuesday at his aunt’s apartment on 9700 block of Whitehurst Drive in Lake Highlands, according to Dallas police.

He had been placed in the temporary custody of his paternal aunt by Child Protective Services and she put him to bed sometime after 11pm on Tuesday evening and discovered him missing when she checked in on him at 6am and called police.

At first a regional Amber Alert was issued for the child on Wednesday around noon but it was upgraded to a statewide alert by 10pm that same evening. By Thursday morning he had been missing for over 24 hours.

Police believe he may be in danger but haven’t said why.

A child who lives in the same apartment said someone who looked like Cedrick’s step-grandfather took Cedrick at some point during the night, according to police.

Police then located a man matching that description, 47-year-old Harold Johnson, but the child was not in his possession. Johnson was arrested on unrelated warrants and is now in jail in Keller, Texas, according to WFAA.

Johnson’s mother said he is the father of the aunt’s boyfriend.

She said that her son would never take CJ and that he was at the home earlier ‘hanging out’ with the family.

Police sources say there was a conflict between Johnson and the aunt prior to the abduction.

‘We still don’t know who has the child or who took the child,’ Maj. Max Geron, acting commander over Criminal Investigations Bureau of the Dallas Police Department, said Wednesday night.

‘I will tell you at this point, we don’t know if that suspect is the person in custody in Keller or if we’re looking for a separate suspect that happens to match that description,’ Geron added.

Now police are questioning Jackson’s parents and aunt at Dallas police headquarters.

‘As a mother, it’s the scariest feeling in the world. It’s really scary, and I just want him to be safe. I want him to know wherever he is that I love him. We love him, and we hope that he’s safe,’ DiShundra Thomas, Cedrick’s mother, said.

Dallas police did not provide a reason for Cedrick’s placement in the aunt’s custody. But Cedrick’s mother said the placement was temporary and not against her will, according to Dallas News.

‘We just want our son back,’ Thomas said outside Dallas police headquarters Wednesday. ‘He’s not even two years old yet. I just want him back home with me.’

Thomas said she was suspicious about Cedrick’s aunt’s story.

‘As far as her version of the story, I really don’t know how to wrap my head around it,’ Thomas said. ‘It just baffles me that a child can get taken in the middle of the night without anybody hearing anything, a child that was sleeping next to you in your bed.’

Police ask that anyone with information about the child’s location, or about the location of Terry Ray Clark, is asked to call 911 or the Dallas Police Department Missing Persons Unit at 214-671-4268
