Pittsburgh Steelers star Cam Heyward is unimpressed by Aaron Rodgers taking his time over where he’ll play next season.

The Steelers are rivaling the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings for the 41-year-old quarterback, a free agent after being cut by the New York Jets.

But Heyward, his potential new teammate in Pittsburgh, isn’t happy with being made to play the waiting game by Rodgers.

Speaking on his own podcast, the defensive tackle said: ‘I ain’t doing that darkness retreat. I don’t need any of that c**p.

‘Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don’t. That’s simple, that’s the pitch.

‘If you want me to recruit, that’s the recruiting pitch. Pittsburgh Steelers – if you want to be part of it, so be it. If you don’t, no skin off my back.’

Heyward was mocking Rodgers and his darkness retreat that he undertook in 2023.

Rodgers, who is open about his intrigue with alternative medicine, was unsure whether to retire, keep on playing with the Green Bay Packers or join the Jets.

But after spending four days in darkness at a retreat in Oregon, Rodgers emerged deciding to play on but with the Jets.

His move to New York was a disaster, though. He tore his Achilles four snaps into his debut against the Buffalo Bills, missing the rest of his first season with his new franchise.

In his comeback year, the Jets went 5-12 and missed the playoffs. Robert Saleh was fired as head coach midway through the season and his permanent replacement, Aaron Glenn, opted to go in a new direction without Rodgers.

Heyward is also not the first Steeler to mock Rodgers this offseason.

In February, DeShon Elliott commented on reports on social media that the Steelers were considering Rodgers with the remark: ‘Leave his a** at the retirement home.’

But days afterwards, the two were pictured together – tagged in an image by Proactive Sports Performance, a California-based fitness program that players from across the NFL attend in the offseason.

The Steelers need a new signal caller after both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields left at the end of their 2024 contracts.

Fields has since signed for the Jets, filling the void left by Rodgers in New York while Wilson is still waiting for the quarterback carousel to turn and for him to land at a team.

But judging by the noises coming out of the Steelers locker room, they’d prefer Wilson back than for Rodgers to roll up.
