Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard was mobbed by fans on Friday at the city’s John Lennon Airport. 

Gerrard was surrounded by Reds supporters prior to his flight to Kiev for the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid. 

The Rangers boss posted a video of the reception he got at the airport on Instagram.

He wrote: ‘John Lennon airport with the lads’ with laugh and kiss emoji faces.

Gerrard, who inspired Liverpool to their fifth European Cup triumph back in 2005, was crowded round by fans who took selfies and some kissed him on the face.

After they were told Gerrard needed to board his flight, one fan asked: ‘Smash Celtic will you Stevie?’

Gerrard will come up against Celtic and his former Reds manager Brendan Rodgers next season in the Old Firm derby.  

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are bidding to win their sixth European Cup against the La Liga giants Madrid on Saturday night. 

Meanwhile, Madrid are attempting to win their third consecutive Champions League trophy and their 13th European Cup.
