Stolen Ferrari is trashed after thief ran out of gas money

A $300,000 Ferrari was found trashed at a gas station after the alleged thief ran out of gas two weeks after it was stolen.

Santa Ana police arrested Israel Perez Rangel, 38, on November 1 after police approached him when he was at Mobil gas station asking for gas money.

Authorities also found the badly damaged 458 Spider. Photos of the white Ferrari showed interior damage, cracked fins and emblems torn from the body.

Edward York, whose girlfriend, Susan Friedman, owned the vehicle, said that they had dropped the car to get serviced on October 18.

York told KTLA 5 that when he went to pick up the car on October 19, he ‘was sitting there for about an hour’.

‘And then they come and say, “Sir, your car’s been stolen,” he said.

It wasn’t until the employees rolled back their security cameras did they figure out that the car had been stolen.

Security footage showed a man wearing a Ferrari jacket walking onto the lot and taking driving off with the car.

One of the center’s employees had reportedly left the keys to the Ferrari in the passenger seat at the time.

Two weeks later, Santa Ana police found Rangel reportedly asking for money at the Mobil gas station with the damaged car, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Security footage at the gas station showed a man dressed in dark clothing get out of the vehicle with a gas can.

A witness also told police that Rangel had tried to sell the vehicle for $5,000 while at the gas station.

As for the Ferrari, York said the car’s paddle shifters had been torn out and the dashboard had been chopped.

The interior was dirty and covered in vomit, York said.

However, York’s girlfriend did receive a check from her insurance company and bought a new car.

She used the money to buy a 2018 Lamborghini Huracan.
