Stomach-churning footage shows an electrician ripping off his own BLACK toenail while on holiday after the 24-year-old got stamped on while playing football

Revolting footage has captured the exact moment an electrician ripped off his own blackened toenail. 

Ryan Wells, 24, from Kettering in Northamptonshire, says it became loose and black after he was ‘stamped on’ while playing football.

He told MailOnline he struggled to walk when he first sustained the injury – but the pain appeared to subside on its own.

However, the injured toenail then became ‘annoying’ because it kept pulling away whenever he accidentally knocked it.

Mr Wells, who is currently on holiday with his girlfriend in Croatia, claimed the sea ‘ruined it completely’.

He decided he would pull the nail off to end his misery, and even chose to record the stomach-churning moment. 

Mr Wells, who currently lives in Berkshire, told how he just stuck a plaster on his toe afterwards, saying he did not know what else to do. 

He told MailOnline: ‘When I first did it, I couldn’t walk right. But the pain only lasted a couple of days.

‘Then it was just annoying, I kept catching it on things which kept pulling it further away from my toe.

The electrician, who is currently on holiday with his girlfriend in Croatia, claimed the sea ‘ruined it completely’. He decided he would pull the nail off to end his misery, and even chose to record the stomach-churning moment

‘The sea ruined it completely. When walking in and out, the water kept pulling it further and further away.’ 

Trauma is one of the biggest causes of black toe or finger nails, which are known medically as subungual haematomas.

The darkened colour is caused by the bleeding and bruising under the nail.

The American Osteopathic College of Dermatology (AOCD) says the first symptom of is often a throbbing pain in the nail area.

In some cases, the injured nail will fall off. It can take up to six months for a new nail to regrow.

WHAT MAKES A TOENAIL TURN BLACK? 

Trauma is one of the biggest causes of black toe or finger nails, which are known medically as subungual haematomas.

The darkened colour is caused by the bleeding and bruising under the nail.

The American Osteopathic College of Dermatology (AOCD) says the first symptom is often a throbbing pain in the nail area. A colour change often follows.

In some cases, the injured nail will fall off. It can take up to six months for a new nail to regrow.
