Stoney Westmoreland, who stars as the grandfather in the popular Disney Channel series Andi Mack, faces federal charges for allegedly trying to lure a 13-year-old in for sex
The Disney Channel star charged with six felony counts for allegedly attempting to lure a minor for sex in Utah will have to appear in federal court after being charged with one count of coercion and enticement on Wednesday.
Stoney Westmoreland, 48, will be summoned after a grand jury returned an indictment, the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah has confirmed.
The new charge could mean anywhere from 10 years to life in prison if convicted.
It came after the actor who portrayed the grandfather of a middle school girl in popular show Andi Mack, began communicating with someone he believed to be a 13-year-old, after they matched with on Grindr, an app commonly used for arranging hookups, according to a police affidavit.
The affidavit states that the middle-aged man requested naked photos from the person.
He also sent pornographic images in return, it is alleged.
Now he is facing charges including attempted exploitation of a minor and enticing a minor.

Westmoreland later attempted to meet the for sex by using a ride-sharing app to order the victim a car to the Little America Hotel, it is claimed.
However the minor was in fact an undercover investigator. Two novelty sex toys were seized from the hotel room.
That’s when he was taken into custody by the Salt Lake City Police Department and FBI Child Exploitation Task Force.
According to police he ‘admitted to sending nude photos, and that the male who he was speaking with told him he was 13 years old’.
He was charged with four counts of dealing in materials harmful to a minor and one count of enticing a minor by internet or text.
Those counts will be dismissed should the federal case move forward.

Westmoreland is a Los Angeles man but the show films across the state of Utah.
Known as Henry ‘Ham’ Mack on his children’s show, he was fired by Disney in December 2018 on the same day he was arrested.
Hi co-stars on the program he worked on for three seasons ranged in age from 14 to 17 years old but the network is most popular with youngsters aged six to 14.
Disney previously said in their statement: ‘Given the nature of the charges and our responsibility for the welfare of employed minors, we have released him from his recurring role and he will not be returning to work on the series which wraps production on its third season next week.’
Westmoreland has also starred in the TV series Scandal, NCIS: Los Angeles, Breaking Bad, Weeds and Gilmore Girls, to name a few.
The American comedy series, Andi Mack, first aired on the Disney Channel in April 2017 and is currently still running.

Disney cable network announced late Friday that Westmoreland has been fired.
‘Given the nature of the charges and our responsibility for the welfare of employed minors, we have released him from his recurring role and he will not be returning to work on the series which wraps production on its third season next week,’ a representative said.
