Stormzy to star in BBC special filmed from Abbey Road Studios ahead of the release of his new album – after taking a two-year break from the public eye

Stormzy will feature in a new BBC entertainment special in November as he makes his return to music following a two-year break from the public eye. 

The rapper, 29, filmed at the world famous Abbey Road Studios, will reflect on his meteoric rise to fame after quitting due to being ‘overwhelmed’. 

Ahead of the release of his long-awaited new album, This Is What I Mean, he will open up about his growth, both personally and in the industry, as well as his success.

The award-winning artist will perform three tracks from the new album in the 45-minute special and will be interviewed by Radio 2 DJ Trevor Nelson. 

Trevor said: ‘I first interviewed Stormzy in 2014 for his debut Live Lounge at 1Xtra and I haven’t interviewed him since then. 

‘When I met him he was the hottest new MC in the UK and now he has become a cultural icon. I’m really looking forward to hosting this show and to being able to chat to him once again.’

The special will broadcast on BBC One on November 15 at 10:40pm and will be available afterwards on iPlayer.

As well as the programme, the BBC will celebrate the Own It singer on radio shows by broadcasting exclusive content.

Greg James on the breakfast show at 8:10am will premiere the world exclusive of Stormzy’s new album’s single Holy Spirit.  

The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on Radio 2 and 1Xtra Breakfast with Nadia Jae on 1Xtra will play performances which have been recorded exclusively for the BBC. 

At 7pm Radio 1’s Future Sounds with Clara Amfo will feature a never-before-heard interview with Stormzy, plus the five tracks performed at Abbey Road.

It comes after Stormzy took a break from public life as he quit social media and stopped doing interviews in 2020. 

The platinum-selling star revealed he felt ‘overwhelmed’ by the pressures of fame and decided to take a two-year break because he felt ‘super depressed’ while trying to become the best artist.
