A streaker who performed a headstand and caused delays at a rugby game was stopped in his tracks by Superman. 

In a New Zealand rugby union clash between Otago and Southland, the mischievous pitch invader made a bold dash across the field, baring all.

The game-stopping incident occurred at a round five Mitre 10 Cup match at Invercargill’s Rugby Park on Saturday.

A man dressed in a Superman costume then ran onto the pitch to help save the day.

He assisted security guards in tackling the streaker, forcing him onto the ground. 

The pair were escorted from the pitch a short time after, leaving confused supporters to process the unlikely incident.

The 20-year-old streaker attended the rugby union game following an end of season football bus trip, the NZ Herald reported.

‘I had a few beers in me and you get a bit silly,’ he said.

‘Someone dropped the idea and I thought why not.

‘I ended up getting taken to the gate and away I went. I didn’t get arrested.’

Otago were victorious in the Saturday game beating their long-term rivals Southland, 43-24.

The teams first competed in 1887 and have played each other 242 times since.
