Strictly Come Dancing: Alfonso Ribeiro steals the show with iconic Fresh Prince Of Bel Air routine

He stepped in to replace Bruno Tonioli for one week only during Saturday’s episode of Strictly Come Dancing.

And Alfonso Ribeiro certainly stole the show as he took to the dance floor to perform his iconic Prince Of Bel Air routine to Sugarhill Gang’s Apache (Jump on It) alongside TV presenter Mike Bushell.

Mike and his partner Katya Jone’s routine was widely panned by the judges however the actor couldn’t resist hopping over the judging table and onto centre stage to showcase his legendary moves.

Following Mike and Katya’s routine, Motsi and Shirley couldn’t hide their laughter as Shirley commented: ‘You love a crowd pleaser! But lets not talk about the Samba!’

Giving Alfonso a run for his money were Saffron Barker and AJ Pritchard, who managed to top the leader board despite Saffron struggling with a back injury and being unable to rehearse properly.

The dynamic duo received rave reviews for their Fox Trot to Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York and were told by Craig that they had left him ‘surprised’ with this week’s routine.

In a video during training Saffron wrote: ‘I’m actually in so much pain. I really hurt my back on Saturday. We actually can’t get through today. We can’t do it.’

Ever the supportive partner, AJ insisted that they would soldier on, saying: ‘No, it’s going well. It’s just that we have to do specific points. There’s a lot of cane work in there which is amazing but we are just being sensible.’

Silencing his own doubts, Kelvin said: ‘If in doubt think you’re Alijaz he’s got this amazing smile and does things so sexy – if I could be anyone I’d be him!’

Oti hoped to reassure him: ‘It’s okay to lose your inhibition and just get into the dance.’

Following a sexually charged Cha Cha Cha, Shirley told them: ‘You definitely brought lots of sunshine! Cool, took it in your stride. What I’d like to continue is a strong leg action for more fluidity, you’re a great performer but I want you to start working on flow.’

Referencing Kelvin’s killer hip action, Alfonso told him: ‘It’s great to be back, but it’s better to see that! As a race car driver, there’s a thing called driving fro mtge seat of your car, and the seat of your car had the ladies hot!’

Quick to put a damper on the complementary chat, Craig added: ‘Thought you were a little bit stiff, it’s what Shirley was suggesting but I get booed!

Mosti told them: ‘You have such great foot speed, and there were so many rhythms of Cha Cha, you had everything in place! You kept the energy, you gave me flirty, you gave me oh-oh that’s what I need for a Cha Cha!’

During their sexy routine Cheryl was spotted in the audience.

Referencing their close friendship, David joked during training: ‘It’s fun, which is apart of the problem because the fun gets in the way of the learning. Nadiya added: ‘We’ve had loads of fun but now we need to get serious and enjoy it.’

Following the routine, Alfonso said: ‘It’s got to be really hard at 6’5 to do the Jive. You made a couple of mistakes but one of the things I want you to do is just scream – let it out! David screams. Just let it go, have some fun and let it all hang out.’

Craig added: ‘No amount of screaming is going to fix that, it was full of timing issues and mistakes. Because you’re so tall you have to be ahead of the beat. It needs more energy. Your body is moving much more freely though.’

Dance stars: Next up was Catherine Tyldesley Johannes Radebe, who embraced at the end of the dance as Johannes told her it was a pleasure - however the couple received mixed reviews before being awarded 28

Motsi said: ‘If you looked good at the upper half I was pleased, there were a lot of mistakes but you couldn’t see it in your face so your stage presence is improving. We need the upper and lower half on point.’

Shirley complemented them: ‘You had good basic content, and what had improved was when you made mistakes you picked up and moved up. I applaud your efforts.’

Upon returning backstage, Claudia Winkleman referenced the fact David’s mum was in the audience however things turned slightly awkward when David replied: ‘Yes my mum who doesn’t like cameras!’

Motsi added: 'I feel every time I see you you give me variety, it's interesting to watch you and see your grow! You need to work on your resistance so that you have speed and are sharper'

Shirley told them: ‘The basic elements were there, it’s elegant… but it lacked ooze and sensual part of the party – it needs a lot more through the centre. It’s a slow dance, it’s difficult but you executed it very well.’

‘I love the connection and this push and pull you have! Sometimes you have to make a man chase you, and you made him!’

Craig added: ‘I’m not chasing darling! It didn’t ooze for me, this dance needs continuous movement, it’s very odd. I think with time you would get it. The storytelling is explosive. But I think in a couple of weeks you’ll be capable of doing this.’

They were award 29 points in total following mixed reviews.
