The couple split earlier this month, but their relationship was marred by claims Luisa had cheated on Neil and was also just using him for a visa into the country.

Neil moved Luisa in just two weeks after dating and went public with their relationship last August.

Talking about their failed romance the professional dancer told Bobby Norris and Stephen Leng on their Access All Areas show: ‘In the future, when I’m in a relationship, I’m keeping it quiet. I’m not going to let anybody know.’

Neil added he finds the attention around his love life difficult as he doesn’t see himself as famous: ‘It’s not easy because no one ever looks at themselves or says like, what’s a celebrity, who’s not a celebrity.

‘We’re just people that are like, I’m just on a TV show. I’m doing what I’ve always done all my life, but the only difference is we get up to like 15 million people watching us do it. So of course that’s going to bring a headlines.’

Neil admitted that he’s not used to the level of attention he’s received since joining the show and certainly wasn’t so popular when growing up: ‘I’m ginger and I was a dancer, so I’ve been bullied most of my life.’

Their relationship was marred with controversy, with Neil later revealing they were living apart following claims Luisa had been unfaithful.

The choreographer – who asked Luisa to move in with him after just two weeks of dating – admitted he initially brushed off the rumours, before the couple ‘turned a corner’ following a candid chat.

During the interview, Neil also talked about Strictly making history by featuring its first same sex couple last series, with boxer Nicola Adams partnering up with Neil’s ex-wife Katya.

He said: ‘I think it’s one of these things where for all of us as dancers, we never looked at it as anything different or special. For most of my time, like when my sister started dancing, she had a girl partner, all of her life. I think she only ever had one male partner.’

When discussing whether this might be a permanent addition to the show, Neil said he wouldn’t mind being paired with a man: ‘If they turn around and say, “Neil, we want you to dance with a guy next year”. Go for it. Like, I don’t mind… It’s about dance and that’s what Katya and Nicola were so good at.’

Discussing their partnership, which was sadly cut short after Nicola tested positive for Covid-19, Neil said: ‘I was so happy they came back and performed in the final because I thought it was a great performance.

‘And I think they just showed everybody look, it’s two people dancing together. There you go. And it was, it was great. It was marvellous.’
