A Sydney teenager has been airlifted to hospital after seriously burning himself while setting fire to his HSC notes.

The 18-year-old was left with multiple burns to his upper and lower body after torching piles of school study notes at a property in Arcadia, a semi-rural suburb in Sydney’s northwest, on Thursday morning.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was rushed to the scene at 9am.

‘The patient was treated at the scene by CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic for multiple burns to his upper and lower body,’ a CareFlight statement read.

Police and firefighters from the Rural Fire Service were also present on the scene as paramedics treated the teenager. 

He was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.
