University students are being offered bubble wrap to help them de-stress during the exam season.

The ‘stress-relief packs’ are being handed out to help undergraduates tackle exam nerves at the student union living room at Bristol University. 

But some students have become more stressed by the bubble wrap therapy and its potential to create plastic waste. 

The packets of bubble wrap come with instructions: ‘For immediate stress relief’, it says, ‘pop three capsules every 4-6 hours, or as needed’

Bristol University librarian Oli wrote on Twitter: ‘Um, @BristolSU Is this for real? Did anyone think about the environmental impact? Bubble Wrap is not currently recycled in any Bristol postcodes. This stuff will be headed straight to landfill.’

Bristol University Student Union was forced to issue a reassuring statement via the uni paper Epigram.

The bubble wrap was originally used to package new furniture for the new Student Union living room.

A Bristol SU spokesperson said: ‘We are aware that a number of students have raise concerns about the environmental impact of the bubble wrap.

‘Sustainability is important to us which is why the bubble wrap being offered is being reused – it was originally the packaging that various Living Room items arrived in.’
