Studio 10 host Tristan MacManus on having had two heart attacks at just 38

Studio 10 host Tristan MacManus recalled having had two heart attacks by the age of 38 in an interview on Sunday.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph’s Confidential, the former professional dancer said he’s conscious of his health as ‘nothing is scarier than not seeing’ his kids grow up.

Tristan is married to filmmaker Tahyna Tozzi, and the couple who are expecting their third child in April, are proud parents to daughter Echo, four, and son Oison, one.

‘I woke up and I was on the ground,’ Tristan recalled of his first heart attack at around age 26 and working as a dancer in Las Vegas.

The television presenter suffered his second heart attack just a few weeks after his 36th birthday two years ago.

With the possibility of another heart attack in the future, Tristan told Confidential that he’s more conscious of his health, as ‘everything changes when you have kids’.

‘There will always be that fear. I couldn’t think of anything else that would be more scary than not seeing my kids grow up,’ he said.

Following his second heart attack, Tristan was diagnosed with myopericarditis – inflammation of the pericardium and the heart muscle.

Tristan urged other men to get their hearts checked and be mindful of their health, as it’s not just those who are unhealthy who can fall victim to heart attacks.

The Irishman and his wife Tahyna, 34, have been through their fare share of emotional turmoil, having suffered three miscarriages in four years.

Tristan and Tahyna addressed their devastating losses in her debut documentary MuM (Misunderstandings of Miscarriage), released last year, in a bid to help normalise miscarriage and unpack the stigma.

Tahyna told Daily Mail Australia in October, that upon reflection, she wished she ‘acknowledged’ Tristan’s ‘pain and grief more’.

‘He was my rock and was incredibly supportive. Looking back, I wish I acknowledged his pain and grief more,’ she said.

‘Tristan also experienced a loss and that is one of the themes I wanted to showcase in MuM, that it (miscarriage) can affect partners and family members and we should acknowledge their process.’
