Sunrise: Kylie Gillies disrupts live broadcast when her alarm goes off

Embarrassing moment Sunrise fill-in host Kylie Gillies disrupts the live broadcast when her phone alarm goes off: ‘Love how you all knew it was me’

Kylie Gillies learned an important lesson on Wednesday: putting your mobile phone on silent won’t stop the alarm from going off.

The 55-year-old is taking a week off her usual gig hosting Seven’s The Morning Show to fill in for Natalie Barr on the earlier shift on Sunrise.

She suffered an embarrassing on-air gaffe when her usual 5:40am alarm went off during reporter Sally Bowrey’s news bulletin.

Although Kylie put her phone on silent for the broadcast, she did not switch off her morning alarm, which led to confusion on the desk.

The Sunrise team later ribbed her over the blunder.

Kylie appealed to Sunrise regulars Sally and David ‘Kochie’ Koch: ‘The phone was turned to silent! Who knew your alarm could still go off?’

‘Everyone knows that, Kylie,’ Sally replied.

The mother of two saw the funny side of her mistake, later joking on Instagram that it was obvious to everyone in the studio who had forgotten to turn off their alarm.

‘Love how you all knew it was me! What a loser! 5:40am is when I usually wake up for The Morning Show. Not used to such an early start!’ she wrote.

In May, Kylie celebrated 33 years of marriage to journalist Tony Gillies, who is the father of her two sons.

Earlier this year, she told the moving personal story behind a performance on Dancing with the Stars: All Stars, revealing it was a tribute to her late father Ron.

She and dance partner Aric Yegudkin selected the Viennese waltz for the competition, a favourite of her father’s.
