Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac is forced to bring back his high school undercut hairstyle

Sunrise weatherman, Sam ‘Mac’ McMillan vowed to bring back his year nine undercut hairdo if he reached 10,000 likes on a school portrait he posted on Instagram.

And less than 24 hours after he issued his online dare on Monday the popular Channel Seven personality had clocked up well over 12,000 likes on the amusing image, promoting him to pay a visit to his local hairdresser.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph’s Confidential section on Wednesday the Australian TV star bemoaned bringing back the retro haircut from his unvarnished school days.

‘I am not one to be shamed easily but this is pretty embarrassing. I am walking through the airport with my hat on,’ he revealed.

Sam took to the photo-sharing app on Monday to share a priceless school portrait of him rocking a dishevelled and outdated fade cut.

He accompanied the snap with a playful call-to-action.

‘If this (photo) gets 10,000 likes on Instagram I will go to the hairdresser tomorrow & bring back my year 9 Undercut do. You know I’m deadly serious,’ he captioned the snap.

He documented the highly-entertaining albeit ’embarrassing’ transformation via his Instagram story.

During one of the clips Sam declared he actually had ‘to pay money’ to receive the less-than-flattering old school cut.

True to form the wacky weatherman made a few jokes at his own expense, captioning one shot: ‘Superbowl is in July this year.’

Meanwhile in another shot he compared his throwback hairstyle to ‘an overaged Backstreet Boy who can’t let go of 1998.’

‘Wowsers. It happened. Can’t decide if I’m…A) An overaged Backstreet Boy who can’t let go of 1998 B) A dude named Ocean working in a Surry Hills Vintage Clothing Store or C) Someone who definitely belongs on a watch list,’ Sam captioned the photo in jest.

In January 2016, the Sydney-based presenter took the reigns from Edwina Bartholomew, a journalist who had remained in the role for three years before deciding to take on a different role on Sunrise.

Sam began his career in Adelaide as a radio DJ for station Fresh FM before nabbing a gig hosting on Triple M Adelaide.

He has since worked as a presenter on Ten’s panel show The Project as well as being the narrator on Seven’s new reality show, First Dates.
