Sam Mac is known for his pranks.

And the Sunrise weatherman was up to his old tricks last week when he went incognito at a bookstore to promote his own book.

Sam took to Instagram to share a clip of himself at the store speaking to an employee behind the counter.

‘Hello, do you know much about this guy?’ Sam asked, wearing a cap and sunglasses to hide his face.

‘No,’ the retailer said, offering a nervous laughter.

‘Oh, is he the annoying guy on Channel Seven?’ Sam asked, hoping to gauge a reaction.

‘Probably. Well,  he is ‘A person’. I don’t watch commercial television,’ she replied.

‘Yeah he’s insufferable,’ Sam snapped back.

‘Absolutely not,’ he said of the book. ‘Put that right back there (on the shelf).’

Sam released his new book ‘Accidental Weatherman’, published by Hachette Australia, earlier this year.

In March, Sam joked that the book was going to be called ‘Moist Conditions’, but it was declined by the publisher.

Accidental Weatherman does however go hand-in-hand with ‘the story of what happens when a hilarious Adelaide boy who knows nothing about meteorology scores the weatherman gig on the highest rating breakfast TV show in Australia.’

In it, Sam recalls the random, and often crazy, adventures he has had since starting with the network – such as bungee jumping, swimming with sharks, taking his mother to the Logies and stripping naked for The Real Full Monty.

In January, the funnyman announced he was ‘officially an author’ when presenting the ‘final draft’ of Accidental Weatherman.

‘I now sport a beret, monocle and semi-convincing beard. Sorry guys, it’s the law,’ he captioned a post of him wearing a beret and monocle while holding the draft.
