This is the heart-stopping moment a heroic father leaps onto train tracks and shields his daughter as a train passes over them.

The incident happened at Ismailia station, located in the city of Ismailia in north-eastern Egypt on January 26.

The pair press tightly against the wall and lie motionless as the carriages whistle past, almost clipping them.

After a terrifying few seconds, the train passes and according to reports both of them survived the ordeal. 

As the train was fast approaching, her father jumped down from the train platform without hesitation, grabbing hold of his daughter to try and protect her.

It appears that the young girl has her arms tightly grasped around her father’s waist as they endure the incident. 

People are stood on the platform watching the events unfold but are unable to do anything to help the stranded pair.  

It is not known if the driver of the train was aware of the fact there were people on the tracks.
