A New York City police officer is being hailed a hero after he chased a teenager along a subway platform and out along a Brooklyn street in the quest to recover a stolen cellphone.
Officer Kenyatta Brown who has been a police officer since 2004 and who now works as a transit cop with Transit District 33 based in Brooklyn, was chatting with a fellow officer inside a train car on Thursday at 1.15pm when he sprung into action.
Bodycam footage captures the sheer athleticism of officer Brown as he raced along the L-train platform at Wilson Avenue in Bushwick, bounded over a subway stile and then continued the chase along the city streets until the suspect finally gave up.
Video footage then sees the victim’s daughter exclaim to Brown, ‘You guys are f****** fast!’
Brown’s athletic prowess has been on display in the past. In 2015, he was pictured by a photographer at as part of a winning NYPD basketball team in which he scored 11 points to beat the NYFD in the annual Heroes Game.

The teenager was eventually caught, surrendering with the words, ‘All right, all right, all right’
The teenager had snatched an iPhone 11 from the hands of a 53-year-old woman, police told DailyMail.com. The victim and her daughter were chasing after him.
The shaky footage from Brown’s bodycam shows him running behind the alleged thief and chasing along the yellow-lined platform.
The pair rush down the stairs and into the station lobby, where commuters pause in awe of the dizzying scene.
At one point, the officer hops over turnstile and lands on his hands in an effort to keep up with the darting suspect.

The chase continues outside, where Brown follows the teenager down the street and finally tackles him by the side of a building.
‘All right, all right, all right,’ the teenager says.
‘Get your a** down, turn around,’ the officer responds, pushing the suspect against the ground.
The video cuts to the officer still panting four minutes later.
‘You guys are f****** fast,’ says a woman who was seen bent over with her hands on her knees in exhaustion.
The woman is the 29-year-old daughter of the victim, according to Fox News.
The young man was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and grand larceny, police told DailyMail.com.
Violent crime has continued to escalate in New York City, with assaults climbing 18.5 percent and robberies up six percent in September.
Data released by the NYPD on Wednesday shows crime rose 2.6 percent overall in September 2021 compared to the same month in 2020, with an extra 243 incidents reported.
It comes as Mayor Bill de Blasio tries to lure tourists and office workers back to the COVID-ravaged Big Apple, with the data likely to deter many over personal safety concerns.
