Supermarkets to close on Good Friday and have reduced trading hours during the long Easter weekend

Some supermarkets and retail chains are planning to have extended trading hours on Thursday to accommodate the demands from customers over the long Easter weekend.

Customers are advised to stock up on grocery and booze as supermarkets giants such as Woolworths, Coles and ALDI are planning to keep most stores closed on Good Friday across Australia.

On Easter Sunday, some stores will open with reduced trading hours.

Woolworths

Good Friday 

Woolworths has decided to keep its stores closed on Friday in New South Wales (NSW), the ACT, Victoria, Tasmania and Norther Territory (NT). 

In Queensland, all Woolworths stores will be closed except for Brisbane Airport, which is open 24 hours.

The supermarket giant has also decided to keep its Eaton and Margaret River stores in Western Australia; and Murray Bridge Marketplace, Victor Harbor and Mt Barker stores open in South Australia on Good Friday.

Easter Saturday

All Woolworths stores will open on Saturday, except the those at 333 George Street and Sydney Metcentre, in NSW. 

In Victoria, all stores will open on Saturday except for Melbourne Central, Bourke St and Collins Square. 

All stores will open in the ACT, Tasmania, Queensland, South Australia (SA), NT and Western Australia (WA).  

Easter Sunday 

Most stores will be closed in NSW and SA, but in other states Woolworths has decided to open its stores with a few exceptions on Sunday.

Easter Monday

Most Woolworths stores will open on Monday across Australia.

Coles

Good Friday 

Coles has decided to close its stores across Australia on Good Friday, except for Dunsborough and Eaton Fair in Western Australia; and Victor Harbor, Mount Barker, and Murray Bridge Green in SA.

Easter Saturday 

The supermarket giant will open all its stores on Easter Saturday with normal trading hours barring a few exceptions.

Wynyard, Casula and Wyong stores in NSW will have reduced trading hours.

Trading hours have also been reduced at Croydon, Wodonga Plaza and Melbourne CBD stores in Victoria.

In Western Australia, all Perth stores will open from 8am to 5pm.

Easter Sunday

All stores, except those in designated regional tourist zones, are closed in NSW on Easter Sunday.

Coles to open its stores in Victoria, except for those in Croydon, Richmond Icon, Melbourne CBD.

In Queensland, all stores to open from 9am to 6pm and those in designated tourist zones are scheduled to open between 7am and 9pm. 

Its stores at Ayr, Goodwindi and Mt Isa, however, are closed on Easter Sunday.

In Western Australia, Perth stores will run from 11am to 5pm.

NT, Tasmania and ACT, except for Five Dock, stores are open as usual on Easter Sunday.

In South Australia, the CBD stores will open from 11am to 5pm, but metropolitan stores will be closed.

Easter Monday 

Most Coles stores will open on Monday across Australia, but a few will have reduced trading hours.

 ALDI 

A spokesperson said ALDI Australia’s store trading hours will vary over the Easter long weekend.

“Most stores will have extended trading hours on Thursday, 18th April and all stores will be closed on Good Friday. On Easter Sunday some stores will open with reduced trading hours,” the spokesperson said.

Kmart 

Good Friday 

All Kmart stores are closed on Good Friday across Australia and New Zealand.

Easter Saturday

All stores are open on Easter Saturday, but customers are advised to check the trading hours first at www.kmart.com.au

NSW – Figtree, Warriewood, Ashfield, Sylvania, Chatswood, Bondi Junction, Pagewood, Hurstville, Burwood, Lidcombe, Waratah, Hornsby, Mt Druitt, Maitland, Glendale, Kotara, Wagga Wagga, Campbelltown, Casula, Narellan, Queanbeyan, Minto, Bass Hill, Merrylands, Blacktown, North Rocks, Orange, Bankstown, Fairfield, Penrith, Marrickville, Parramatta, Stanhope, Castle Hill and Top Ryde.

• Queensland – Mt Isa, Armidale & Tamworth 

• Western Australia – Kalgoolie

All SA stores are closed except for Port Pirie, Mt Barker, Port Lincoln and Rundle Mall.

Easter Monday 

Most stores are open on Easter Monday across Australia except Mt Isa in Queensland and Kalgoolie in WA. 

In SA all stores are closes except for Port Pirie, Mt Barker, Port Lincoln and Rundle Mall.

Liquorland/Vintage Cellars/First Choice Liquormart 

Good Friday 

All stores are closed on Good Friday across Australia.

Easter Saturday 

All stores are open and have normal trading hours.

Easter Sunday 

A few select stores are open in NSW, SA and WA.

All stories are open in other states with the exception of Chisholm in the ACT.

Easter Monday

All stores are open across Australia, except South Australia where only a selected few are open.
