A teenager will spend Christmas Day in jail after being sentenced to ten months for one-punch attack in a pub.

The 18-year-old hit his victim on the night of Easter Sunday after a drinking session at a pub in Old Woking, Surrey.

CCTV from earlier in the evening showed a verbal altercation between Richardson and his victim.

Later that evening, whilst in the smoking area, Richardson threw a single punch towards the victim, making contact with his face.

Detective Constable Tina Stewartson said: ‘This case serves as a reminder to everyone who goes out to pubs and bars that they need to behave.

‘Everyone goes out to have a good time. We want people to be safe and enjoy themselves.

‘The injuries sustained by the victim highlight the damage one punch can cause.

‘People are known to have died after being on the receiving end of an individual punch so we strongly urge people to think about their actions and refrain from using violence like this, in any situation.

‘If you spot someone being aggressive on a night out, point them out to bouncers or bar staff and in case of an emergency, call Police on 999.

The victim of the assault said: ‘Since the assault, I have felt anxious.

‘I suffered a lack of sleep due to the amount of pain I was in and through lying awake thinking and worrying about the assault.

‘At first I was not allowed to sleep on the sides of my head and had to lay only on my back which I found so difficult to sleep in this position.

‘I now find myself not wanting to go out in public places and would not go back into The Crown and Anchor Pub again where I used to meet my friends to socialise.’

Richardson was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court today.
