Susanna Reid insists she’s ‘fine’ and remains ‘good friends’ with Steve Parish

Susanna Reid addressed her breakup from Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish, 53, live on GMB on Monday morning.

The TV star’s co-presenter Piers Morgan probed Susanna, 48, about the split, hours after the Daily Mail exclusively revealed the news.

As Piers asked, ‘Are you single again? You are aren’t you?’ an upbeat Susanna replied: ‘Yep. Let’s not dwell. I’m fine, we’re fine, we’re very good friends. We were at the match on Saturday.’

The couple were seen cosying up to one another as they watched Crystal Palace over the weekend. Susanna used the result of the match to deflect the conversation with Piers, whose team Arsenal lost.

‘You had an interesting match over the weekend. In fact you’ve had three,’ she teased.

‘I know one of the things you’re most devastated with my split, is the fact you will no longer have access to the wine cellar,’ she added before presenting her friend with three bottles of Crystal Palace wine to ‘commemorate the epic occasion of Palace beating Arsenal.’

‘Steve let’s make this clear, you’ve broken up with Susanna and not me,’ Piers said. ‘Your wine cellar remains a very important part of my life.’

‘I think it’s nice that you guys went to the football… these things happen right,’ he continued. ‘They do,’ agreed Susanna. ‘And we remain friends.’

On Sunday night a friend of the presenter, who has helped turn ITV’s Good Morning Britain into a ratings hit, told the Mail of the split: ‘It’s very sad, but they just couldn’t make it work.

‘They both work extremely hard and there wasn’t enough time for romance.’

A spokesman for Susanna confirmed that the couple have split but declined to comment further.

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant became close with Steve, following her break-up with Dominic Cotton, the father of her three children, in 2014.

The couple, who bonded over their shared love of Crystal Palace, were first pictured together in November 2018 after a romantic mini-break in Paris.

The friend added: ‘They met through their mutual support for Palace and will stay good friends. They watched the match together on Saturday even though the romance was over.’

The friend insisted that no one else was involved in the break-up. Steve, who has two grown-up daughters with his ex-wife Carmel, made an estimated fortune of £45million through his computer graphics business and became Crystal Palace chairman in 2010.

Shock: On Sunday night a friend of the presenter told the Mail of the split: ‘It’s very sad, but they just couldn’t make it work’

Susanna split from journalist Dominic, her partner of 16 years, shortly after her stint on Strictly Come Dancing, where she was partnered with Kevin Clifton – who has been divorced three times and is now dating his most recent dance partner Stacey Dooley.

Susanna said it was unfair to place all the blame for her split on Strictly, though she admitted it was a ‘parallel universe of sequins and stardust’.

‘Over 16 years, you’re going to change a bit, both of you,’ she said after the split. ‘Would it have happened anyway? I don’t know. I don’t analyse it.’

At the time, Susanna was spending half the working week at the BBC’s Salford studios to host BBC Breakfast, waking up at 3.30am to present the three-hour show before making the 200-mile trip back to her family in London.
