Suzy Heazlewood says she was bullied so badly she tried to take her own life twice

A grandmother has spoken out about how she was horrifically bullied for appearing in an infomercial about skincare products on television.

Suzy Heazlewood, from New Zealand, became the face of collagen capsules Puraz – a skincare supplement brand designed to help men and women look younger.

But her ‘dream job’ took a turn for the worse after the Auckland mother-of-four found herself at the centre of a cruel backlash from female viewers.

She revealed how the taunts was so severe, she even attempted suicide twice before relocating to Australia to pursue a new life, NZ Herald reported.

The woman, who was a postie for 28 years, said the bullying started online before she was encountered physical abuse when she was in public.

‘I expected to be recognised and I would give my time to anyone who wanted to have a chat, but I had no idea to the amount of backlash I would receive for doing my job and being me,’ she told the publication.

‘Some of the things I was called not just online but to my face was ‘ugly, creepy, don’t need a mask for Halloween, ugliest woman on TV… There’s that ugly Puraz b**** she doesn’t look that great. She looks 60 not 40′. The list goes on, all in earshot.’

Ms Heazlewood, who has three grandchildren, said the worst attack was from a woman who threatened to have her face blown off.

‘I kept thinking my gosh is this the day I’m going to have my face blown up … I guess it got so personal and nasty especially about my looks that I started to get severe anxiety,’ she recalled.

As her anxiety worsened, she went from a ‘bubbly Suzy’ to feeling suicidal where she attempted to take her own life twice.

The terrified mother and her husband decided to move to the Gold Coast to escape the public scrutiny.

‘We knew that if we stayed in New Zealand, I would not still be here on this planet it was affecting me that much,’ she said.

Previously speaking to NZ Women’s Weekly, Ms Heazlewood opened up about how she was subjected to the horrific abuse.

‘I was a real person, I wasn’t a model or an actress. I was Suzy the postie,’ she said.

‘I was very proud that I was a woman off the street, who stood up for a product that had given me great results. But the experience turned into a nightmare. A number of women hated me. I felt like a lamb to the slaughter.’

The job came around after the then-41-year-old responded to the company’s ad seeking for a customer to front their brand in 2006.

Now more than 10 years on, Ms Heazlewood runs her own company Suzy H Skin Nutrition on the Gold Coast.

By sharing her story, the survivor said she wanted to be a voice for bullying victims as she hopes they find strength to stand up from her experiences.
