It has been nearly 20 years since he starred in the hit romantic comedy Sweet Home Alabama.
And Josh Lucas is game to return for a sequel – just try getting his ever-busy co-star Reese Witherspoon involved.
‘Look, I would love to do the sequel,’ Josh, 50, said on the SiriusXM show Pop Culture Spotlight. ‘The issue is Reese’s got a book club. And I’m saying that like laughingly, but Reese is, you know, I’ve heard like, “Oh, you can talk to her about stuff five years from now.” You know, she’s a mogul.’
‘Let’s do it’: Josh Lucas is game to film a sequel of Sweet Home Alabama
‘And back when I was doing Sweet Home Alabama, I, for some reason, remember telling the director or somebody speaking about her, but I said, “I bet this woman ends up running a movie studio one day.”
‘And she’s even beyond that at this point. I mean, you know, she’s, she’s her own version of Oprah Winfrey now, right? I mean, she’s, she’s as, and it’s extraordinary and not surprising either, at all.’
Overall, the actor was down to revisit the role of Jake Perry.
‘Reese, c’mon, let’s go do it.’
‘She’s a mogul’: Lucas said the problem would be getting his ever-busy co-star Reese Witherspoon involved
This definitely isn’t the first time Josh has expressed interest in returning to the world of Sweet Home Alabama.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight back in 2019, the actor said he was ‘up’ for a sequel.
‘I know Reese’s said she is as well,’ he told the publication. ‘The director [Andy Tennant] is absolutely up for it. I spoke to him about it a couple of times recently.

‘So look, I throw it out to you, Reese. I think the person who’s the one to put it together is Reese, so I’m hoping. Who knows? She’s got a lot of irons in the fire, to say the least. Hopefully, this is one of them.’
While Reese may be busy with her book club, film career, and clothing brand Draper James, she’s also down to come back for a sequel.
‘We’re not making a sequel that I know of, but if Disney wants to make a sequel they can just call me,’ she said during a Q&A on Facebook back in 2016.
Count him in! This definitely isn’t the first time Josh has expressed interest in returning to the world of Sweet Home Alabama
‘I would happily make Sweet Home Alabama 2.’
Reese would definitely need to find time to do so with an ever-busy calendar, which includes her media company Hello Sunshine.
The actress is even exploring the sale of the company, which is valued at $1 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The 2002 film Sweet Home Alabama told the story of Melanie Smooter (Reese), a young woman returning to her small town in Alabama to finalize her divorce from her first husband Jake (Josh) after becoming engaged to the son of New York City’s mayor, Andrew Hennings (Patrick Dempsey).
