The shocking incident took place on Saturday at the Miracle Gymnasium in Changzhou, eastern China’s Jiangsu Province.

The boy’s mother, known by her surname Zhang, has told of horror to local newspaper Modern Express.

According to Ms Zhang, her son started to undertake private swimming lessons at the gym since the beginning of July.

She said she usually took the boy to the gym, dropped him off with the instructor and waited for her son to finish her class outside the pool.

On Saturday when Ms Zhang went to pick up her son after the class, the boy was crying hard next to the pool and begged his mother to never take him to class again.

The instructor told Ms Zhang at the time that the boy cried because he had sustained some injuries after failing to cooperate during the class, according to the mother.

The mother claimed that she demanded the gym show her surveillance footage of the class after other learners told her the child had been abused by the coach.

A 40-second clip showed that the instructor slammed the boy into the pool three times over 15 seconds.

The shocked parent accused the coach of abusing her son and demanded the gym refund her son’s tuition fee, which amounted to 1,500 yuan (£175).

She also demanded 1,000 yuan (£117) extra as financial compensation.

The gym admitted that the instructor’s behaviour was ‘inappropriate’ and apologised to the family.

In a similar incident last month, a swimming coach pressed a boy’s head under the water in a pool because the child had been naughty during a lesson in Zhengzhou, Henan Province

A manager told a reporter that the gym had fired the instructor and issued him 2,000 yuan (£234) fine.

But the manager denied that the instructor’s act had been ‘abusive’.

A similar incident occurred in Zhengzhou in central China’s Henan Province last month.

A swimming instructor repeatedly pressed a boy’s head underwater because the young learner was naughty.

The coach’s behaviour was spotted by the boy’s mother who was observing her son’s swimming lesson.

The instructor, in his 20s, blamed his behaviour on his ‘bad temper’.
