Sydney bikie arrested and gun, cocaine, steroids seized

A senior Comanchero bikie was arrested and a loaded revolver and half a kilogram of cocaine seized as police investigated a gangland execution.

The raid followed eight men being charged on Thursday with the murder of Mehmet Yilmaz, who was gunned down on a Western Sydney street last year.

As part of six raids that arrested those suspects, detectives searched an industrial unit in St Marys and a car parked outside.

They seized a loaded .357 Smith and Wesson magnum revolver, more than 500g of cocaine, a ballistic vest, drug paraphernalia, steroids, and Alprazolam.

The 35-year-old bikie, who was subject to a firearms prohibition order, was arrested and refused bail in Penrith Local Court on Friday morning.

He was charged with possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing prohibited drugs and restricted substances, and four other firearms crimes.

Police also reported unlawful construction within one of the units, residential quarters in contravention of the development application, and multiple fire safety breaches, which will undergo further investigation.

Detectives will also further investigate the cocaine.

Yilmaz’s death was one of 10 underworld shootings and apparent revenge executions across Sydney since 2015.

The deaths included mafioso kingpin Pasquale Barbaro, 35, who was shot dead outside an Earlwood home in November 2016.

Barbaro’s grandfather and cousin were both killed in gangland hits and there were unconfirmed rumours he was an informant.

Gangland figure and convicted killer Ahmad, 40, was killed on a rooftop car park of Bankstown Central shopping centre in April 2016.

His execution was believed to be in retaliation for the fatal shooting of Safwan Charbaji outside a Condell Park panel beater several weeks earlier.

A key suspect in the Ahmad murder, Hamad Assad, was killed at St Georges Hall home last October.

A month ago, the shopping centre rooftop where Ahmade was killed was 3D laser-scanned to help detectives progress their investigation.
