  • NSW Fire and Rescue Service freed ‘Snow’ trapped inside wall
  • They let him go, but the mixed-up moggy got lost again
  • His owner, Amma Asantuaa, launched epic rescue mission

NSW Firefighters have dramatically freed a cat named Snow trapped inside a wall, in a heartwarming rescue.

The firies in a painstaking two-hour operation used grinders, power saws and drills to cut through gyprock and set him free at a home in Sydney’s Marrickville on Tuesday.

When the frightened critter emerged they gave their new ‘furry friend’ a cuddle and a sip of water before ‘letting it find its own way home’.

But the drama wasn’t over for the mixed-up moggy.

Disoriented after his owners moved into their new home three days earlier, the cat was unsure about how to get back to it.

His desperate owner Amma Asantuaa, 28, told Daily Mail Australia she spent the next 24 hours searching for him.

‘It seemed really weird to me, why would they do that, just let a cat go without its owner?’ she said.

NSW Fire and Rescue said they did try to reach local after-hours vets, but made the decision to let him go thinking he was a local and would find his way home.

When Ms Asantuaa’s friend saw a television news item about a white cat freed by firies, he let the distraught young woman know.

She contacted NSW Fire and Rescue for more information, only to be told the cat was long gone.

So around lunchtime on Wednesday, Ms Asantuaa set off on a desperate mission to find Snow, who she had first rescued as a stray kitten.

She walked up and down streets between Sydenham Road to the end of Marrickville Road – which is around 45 minutes in one direction.

Around 9.30pm, she miraculously found him, hiding in a house in the middle of renovations, about 700 metres from his new home.

‘I have done miles and miles today, some people might think I was being really dramatic but Snow is like a child to me,’ she said.

‘I got him as a stray and had him under my wing ever since.

‘I fed him up, it was devastating to lose him and major to find him.

‘It’s a massive weight off my shoulders, I can relax. I can eat again.

‘I haven’t eaten all day.’

Snow, however, she said ‘has had a big feed and is laying down relaxing.’
