Sydney father dies after falling from Waterloo balcony

  • Patrick Fisher, 31, fell from the balcony of a 13th floor unit in Waterloo, Sydney
  • Officers attempted to bring Mr Fisher into custody on outstanding warrants
  • He’s believed to have then slipped and fallen to his death about 11am Tuesday
  • Neighbours and relatives claim he was taking ice at the time police arrived

A father has plunged to his death from the balcony of a 13th floor unit after police officers attempted to arrest him.

Police closed in on Patrick Fisher, 31, at his girlfriend’s unit in Waterloo, in Sydney’s inner-south, shortly before 11am on Tuesday.

Officers attempted to bring Mr Fisher into custody on outstanding warrants for assault and stealing offences following a tip-off from the public.

But the Indigenous man – who neighbours and relatives claim was taking ice at the time – went over the balcony railing and fell 13 floors to his death, ABC News reported.

A critical incident investigation into the death was launched hours later.

The investigation will undergo an independent review and a report will be prepared for the coroner, police said.

Mr Fisher’s neighbours and relatives told the ABC that he was trying to climb down to another unit when he slipped and fell.

A relative, only identified as Toya, said she believed he was panicked and was not trying to take his own life.

‘I know he wouldn’t have killed himself, he had too much to live for,’ she told the publication.

‘He didn’t deserve to die like this, he’s only young.’
