Sydney fitness blogger hits back at bully at the gym

A fitness blogger who went on her own personal transformation journey has spoken about the time a ‘bully’ left her feeling intimidated to be in the gym.

Sydney-based Lucy Baker, 25, shared a transformation photo to Instagram in a bid to help other women who were anxious about gym sessions, and spoke about her own recent experience at the same time.

‘Yesterday I rock up to the gym and it’s super busy. After a few minutes I spot a free bar so I go over and ask a PT if he’s using it,’ the blogger wrote on Instagram.

‘He didn’t actually say a word, he just stared at me and nodded.’

‘The girl he was training laughed at him (which made me feel like he was joking) so I ask again nicely, to which he does the same thing and they both start laughing at me,’ she went on.

‘Instantly I was angry as this is why girls have zero confidence in the gym. People who think they can be bullies,’ she said.

Lucy said that she used to be so ‘intimidated’ about going to the gym she would only workout at home.

‘I would constantly worry if I was doing something right or in general stress about what to do because of others around me,’ she said.

‘Please whatever you do, don’t be scared of going to a gym if you’re reading this, as 99 per cent of the time everyone is lovely and there is no issue,’ she wrote.

‘I just want to point out that sometimes you do get horrible people in life, it’s how you deal with them that’s important.

‘So I went straight to reception to complain, got on with my workout and hopefully I won’t see this person again.’

‘Moral of the story is, going to the gym and learning how to lift weights has given me so much more confidence,’ she added.

‘Don’t be afraid of anything as you can definitely do whatever you put your mind to, and try not to worry what other people think because most of the time no one around you is watching anyway – something I wish I could have told my old self.

‘Do whatever YOU want to, and if you want to lift heavy weights, you definitely can,’ she concluded.

'Do whatever YOU want to, and if you want to lift heavy weights, you definitely can. Show those boys who's boss,' Lucy said

She explained that the biggest difference over the years hasn’t been how much she weighs or how fit she is but how her mindset has changed.

‘By eating more and training differently it’s massively helped my confidence.’
