A man has been held in a prison cell overnight after allegedly ramming his luxury Mercedes into a motorbike during a wild road rage attack in Sydney’s inner city.

Police claim the man, 38, first got into an argument with the motorcyclist at a set of traffic lights outside Broadway Shopping Centre on Wednesday at lunchtime.

He then allegedly reversed his Mercedes AMG, which has a sale price upwards of $300,000, into the man’s Yamaha motorcycle in front of horrified shoppers.

The rider, 30, jumped off his motorbike to avoid ‘serious injury’ as the Mercedes driver sped away.

Police allege the man returned moments later and deliberately drove over the already damaged motorcycle, again fleeing the scene in his flashy car.

Officers from Sydney City Local Area Command were called and found the Mercedes in a nearby street.

The driver was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with a range of offences, including predatory driving, menacing another with intent and driving recklessly.

He was refused bail and will appear in Central Local Court on Thursday.
