Sydney woman gives handmade animal toys to NSW Police Force to give to children affected by violence

‘The world needs more of you’: Crafty Aussie woman makes incredible gesture as cops share a picture of the unique way she hopes to help kids affected by domestic violence

A kind-hearted craft enthusiast has done her bit to bring joy to children affected by domestic violence, handmaking 23 adorable toys for them to cuddle.

A photo shared on Facebook by NSW Police Force shows a delivery of handcrafted animal toys, created by a woman named Marie.

The post said that the gifts will be handed on to vulnerable children to ‘provide them comfort and bring a smile to their face’, as per the creative woman’s request.

The photo was captioned: ‘Everyone should be a little more like Marie during Kind July’ and hash-tagged #kindjuly supporting the Stay Kind organisation.

Stay Kind runs a yearly campaign called Kind July including events every day that encourage people to do something for others.

The organisation works with children in unsafe situations and has recorded more than 72,000 interventions helping young people in Sydney.

According to Mission Australia statistics, one in four Australian women have experienced violence from a partner.

Of those adults who where victim of domestic violence, 86.8 per cent said their child saw or heard the violence.

In 2019-2020, 36 per cent of people who experienced family and domestic violence were younger than 18. 

Comments flooded in, praising Marie for her selfless gesture.

‘Marie, you are an incredible human being and what gorgeous toys, made with so much love. You will touch so many children’s hearts in such a selfless and kind way,’ one commenter said.

Another added: ‘This is the sort of kind, generous, quiet, sensitive, nice, warm, caring, good, gracious, gentle behaviour we should value today.’
