Record auction bid fails as vendor turns down $23 million offer for stunning Sydney Harbour property

  • Sydney’s most expensive auctioned house has been passed in after $23m offer
  • The palatial Rose Bay home beat the city’s previous record by $250,000
  • With views across Sydney Harbour and the Opera House, it has five bedrooms

A stunning mansion with breathtaking views of Sydney harbour has broken an auction record after fetching $23million – but the seller wanted more and refused to hand over the keys.

The palatial Rose Bay home beat the city’s previous record by a sizeable $250,000 but the top offer was still not enough to sway its cashed-up owner.

Boasting views across Sydney Harbour towards the Opera House, the property is home to property mogul Stephen Burcher and his wife Melissa.

The pair were not swayed by the $23,250,000 bid reportedly placed by a local Chinese family on Saturday with the aim of an even higher sale price.

But real estate agent Ben Collier told realestate.com.au the family have since upped their offer, adding: ‘It is very close’.

For the hefty sum, the prospective buyer would inherit the five-bedroom, five-bathroom abode with its own private boatshed and deck with direct water access.
