Those wandering around the Sydney CBD on Monday morning were treated to the irresistible aroma of buttery French pastries wafting through the streets.

And it wasn’t hard to find the source, with a lengthy line looping its way down Elizabeth towards the Martin Place Metro.

At the end? The eagerly anticipated second location of Parisian bakery Loulou, Petit Loulou, handing out free croissants to fans.

The iconic Milson’s Point venue is famed for its bistro, boulangerie and traiteur and delivering the some of the most delicious French pastries, baguettes and fine dining the country has to offer.

Now nestled in the iconic 1 Elizabeth Street above Martin Place metro, Petit Loulou is the latest haven for pastry lovers and will serve their signature freshly-baked French butter croissants and viennoiseries to those across the bridge.

Designed for on-the-go city dwellers and tourists alike, the new hideaway caters primarily to takeaway orders and will serve petite tarts alongside rotisserie chicken baguettes, Niçoise salads, and exceptionally popular sausage rolls.

There is also a charming al fresco seating area for those looking to savour the moment.

To celebrate the grand opening, Sydneysiders will be treated to a five-day croissant giveaway from February 10 to February 14.

With a limit of one croissant per person from 6.30am every morning until sold out, the bakery will be gifting freshly baked croissants free with any coffee purchase.

From Loulou’s Signature Croissant, Pain au Chocolate, Pain Suisse and a special Valentine’s Day treat, a different flavour will be featured daily.

‘We wanted to offer Sydney locals an authentic French experience, whether they’re returning guests or visiting us for the first time,’ Brendon Woodward, Loulou’s Head Baker said.

‘Our ethos is to share the joy of traditional French baking with the city, and what better way to celebrate the opening of our new CBD location than by introducing them to the essence of Loulou through our signature croissants.’

Petit Loulou is just the beginning. In March, its big sister – the 130-seat Loulou Bistro and Bar – will open next door, spanning across two split levels spilling out onto Elizabeth Street to create a quintessential Parisian-style vantage point, perfect for people-watching.

Echoing the relaxed elegance of Parisian and New York bistros, much like its Lavender Bay counterpart, Loulou Martin Place will offer a lighter take on contemporary and classic French cuisine, inspired by the vibrant flavours of the South of France.

Petit Loulou joins Etymon’s growing hospitality portfolio since launching in 2021, making its mark across Sydney’s Lower North Shore and CBD.
