Sylvia Jeffreys was shocked by Lisa Wilkinson’s Today exit

Earlier this month, Australian audiences were left shocked when Lisa Wilkinson dramatically left the Today after a reported pay dispute with Channel Nine.

And in Friday’s Daily Telegraph, colleague Sylvia Jeffreys admitted she too was caught off-guard by the unexpected departure.

Speaking to the publication, the 31-year-old said she was ‘surprised’ by the news.

‘I heard about the same time that everyone else did,’ the blonde beauty explained to the publication.

Sylvia admitted she wasn’t given a heads-up before Lisa announced she was leaving the network to take up a role at The Project.

‘It was as big of a shock to me as it was to everyone else,’ Sylvia said.

She added: ‘I felt surprised.’

On Thursday, the journalist responded to speculation that she was set to take the reins from Lisa, now that her former job is up for grabs.

Asked whether she was about to nab the coveted role, Sylvia told Daily Mail Australia: ‘You’d have to ask my boss that question if you like!’

The TV personality was coy about whether she’d say yes if offered the role.

Skirting around the question, she answered: ‘I… umm.. I’m very much focused on getting to work at 4 o’clock as I always am and doing my job.’

The morning after news broke that Lisa had departed the network for a gig at The Project, Sylvia famously paid tribute to her colleague, describing her as an inspiration to young girls.

And on Thursday, the blonde stunner continued to praise media stalwart Lisa.

‘She has been a great friend to me and a terrific mentor and someone I really enjoyed working with,’ Sylvia said.
