TALK OF THE TOWN: Amanda ‘longest legs in Belgravia’ Cronin accepts £250,000 engagement ring

Socialite Amanda Cronin – renowned for having ‘the longest legs in Belgravia’ – has accepted a £250,000 engagement ring… despite turning down the offer of marriage which came with it!

Amanda is dating a man she refers to as ‘The Canadian’ but he wasn’t the one who presented her with the Van Cleef & Arpels sparkler, below. 

She claims she was proposed to by ‘one of the most powerful men in Northern Europe’ after a meeting in a New York hotel.

Amanda tells me: ‘I noticed a very good-looking older man making eye contact. He gave me his number and first name. The next day I texted him once and my phone blew up with pages of love texts. I later found out he’s one of the most powerful men in Northern Europe – and he has a wife.

‘I said I can’t possibly meet him. He said he was prepared to dissolve his marriage immediately and then he proposed. Eventually we met up in London and he proposed again, this time with a ten-carat ring. But it was getting all too weird. I offered him the ring back but he said it would make him happy if I kept it.’

Amanda is now recovering from her ordeal in the Maldives, and posted this snap, above. It’s a tough life…

Meanwhile, Sadie Frost set tongues wagging by posting this picture, below right, of an emerald and diamond ring on her engagement finger, and thanking boyfriend Darren Strowger with the message: ‘Nice Xmas pressie. Bling bling.’ 

Friends soon began congratulating Jude Law’s ex, below left, on being engaged, at which point she quickly deleted the post.

Sadie, 54, has been dating businessman Darren for six years but the couple still live in separate houses.

Have the Beckhams taken another step in the direction of trying to be truly ‘posh’ by creating a family signet crest? 

I notice that young Romeo, 17, has taken to wearing a signet ring, pictured below. 

Traditionally, aristos wear a gold signet, engraved with their family crest, on their left pinkie. 

I’m not sure how far the Beckham ‘lineage’ goes back but spies at the College of Arms tell me there is no official crest registered with them… so far.

Former England captain David and his pop-star-turned-fashion-designer wife have been blundering their way into high society for years. 

At Prince William’s wedding in 2011, Victoria wore sky-high platform heels (a big no-no), while David likes to don his tweeds, pictured right, to go shooting with film director Guy Ritchie.
