TALK OF THE TOWN: David Beckham is set to launch his own production company – making documentaries about himself

He has gone from superstar footballer and England captain to being an Olympic ambassador and even appearing in a Hollywood film. Now I can reveal that David Beckham is about to add another entry to his sparkling CV – by trying his luck as a television mogul.

I hear that Beckham is set to launch his own production company to make programmes that he can sell to global networks in a bid to swell his fortune, which is already rumoured to be an astonishing £770 million.

The 44-year-old is hoping to make documentaries about himself – prompting the question of whether his wife Victoria and their four children will be tempted to join him in a fly-on-the-wall series like Keeping Up With The Kardashians – in addition to working behind the camera on other projects.

Beckham is a huge cooking fan so perhaps he is looking to his close friend Gordon Ramsay for inspiration. He has already hired the highly regarded television executive Nicola Howson, who assisted Ramsay in setting up his own production company, Studio Ramsay. It makes a CBBC show starring his daughter Matilda, and various documentaries.

A television source tells me: ‘This is a game-changer for David. He is now looking at making a huge amount of money from his shows.

‘His name has become a licence to print money and he is likely to have everyone from the BBC to Netflix and Amazon wanting to buy work from him.’

The project is believed to be one of the final parts of Beckham’s post-football empire.

He already has his own whisky brand, Haig Club, a fashion line with men’s label Kent & Curwen, a grooming range called House 99, two London pubs, and he is soon to launch his own US football team, Inter Miami.

Beckham has previously starred in several documentaries, most notably when he travelled the world to play football in seven continents across seven days in aid of the children’s charity Unicef. And five years ago, he and his best friend David Gardner appeared in David Beckham Into The Unknown, which saw the pair drive their motorbikes across Brazil.

Last month, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star split from his long-term business partner Simon Fuller, the tycoon behind the Spice Girls and Pop Idol.

Beckham bought Fuller’s shares in his firm Seven Global and David Beckham Ventures.
