A man has tragically died attempting to save his pet from a deadly eastern brown snake.

The 24-year-old from Tamworth was attempting to ward the creature away from his companion when the snake bit him.

He was rushed to hospital on Wednesday evening but died within an hour of the bite.

The eastern brown snake is commonly referred to as the most dangerous snake in the world, due to its common presence near populated areas and potency of their venom

The incident is believed to have occurred in the man’s home on Cole Road just before 10pm.

The snake was reportedly close to his pet, and he was bitten as he attempted to move it away.

He was unable to be saved despite the efforts of emergency services, with the snake’s deadly venom claiming his life in less than 60 minutes.

The local community are devastated at the loss of the man. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
