Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman has announced he is stepping down.

The state Liberal leader held a snap press conference on Tuesday afternoon where he revealed he would be vacating the role he’s held since 2014.

‘I have given this job, which is an enormous honour and privilege absolutely everything,’ he told reporters in Hobart.

‘It is a job I have loved. It is undeniable that it had impact on my family and I want to thank them for their amazing support for the 17.5 years that I have been a member of parliament.’

Mr Hodgman was re-elected for a second term in 2018 and hailed his party’s economic management.

‘We’ve delivered our plan to turn around our economy from being the worst in the country to the best,’ he said.

‘To take our state’s budget from deficits to surpluses, to invest more into health, into education, and into essential services and into the infrastructure that our growing state needs.’
