Taylor Swift Midnights Easter eggs: Is she taking swipe at Kim and Kanye’s divorce in Vigilante S**t

Did Taylor Swift take a swipe at Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s divorce in her song Vigilante S**t, as well as the reality star’s romance with Pete Davidson?

The singer, 32, dropped her brand new album, Midnights, on Friday – and fans are now going gaga trying to figure out who each song is about and decode the many hidden messages and Easter eggs that she intertwined throughout the tracks.

One song in particular has sparked attention – the eighth track on the album, called Vigilante S**t, which is all about Taylor getting back at someone who wronged her.

In it, Taylor mentioned a couple who ended their marriage seemingly after she sent the woman ‘cold hard proof’ that her husband was cheating – and many people are wondering if she’s referring to Kim and Kanye’s recent split.

During the two-minute-44-second song, the popstar sings about ‘dressing for revenge’ and ‘getting even,’ and at one point, she even hints that she got the ultimate payback on someone by exposing his infidelity.

Taylor has long been embroiled in a nasty feud with Kim and Kanye, and now, many were left wondering – did the artist contribute to the rapper and his ex-wife’s divorce?

Kim and Kanye officially ended their marriage in February 2022, and around that time, fans were quick to point out that Kim was seen leaving a building in Los Angeles, California, while holding a mysterious manila envelope.

On February 4, the SKIMS founder looked somber in a puffy jacket and leggings as she exited the establishment with the folder in her hands, before she got into her car and drove away.

It’s still unclear what exactly was inside the envelop and if it came from Taylor, but many people are convinced that the line in Vigilante S**t is a reference to it.

The song continues: ‘Now she gets the house, gets the kids, gets the pride / Picture me thick as thieves with your ex-wife.’

According to court documents, Kim was the one who got to keep the couple’s $60 million Hidden Hills mansion after their bitter divorce battle.

When it comes to their four children, North, nine, Saint, six, Chicago, four, and Psalm, three, their custody hearing is set for December 2022, but Kanye previously revealed in an interview that she has the kids ’80 per cent’ of the time.

Vigilante S**t’s most cryptic lyrics

Draw the cat eye, sharp enough to kill a man

You did some bad things, but I’m the worst of them

Sometimes I wonder which one’ll be your last lie

They say looks can kill and I might try

I don’t dress for women I don’t dress for men, lately I’ve been dressin’ for revenge

I don’t start s**t, but I can tell you how it ends

Don’t get sad, get even

She needed cold hard proof, so I gave her some

She had the envelope, where you think she got it from?

Now she gets the house, gets the kids, gets the pride

Picture me thick as thieves with your ex-wife

And she looks so pretty drivin’ in your Benz

Lately she’s been dressin’ for revenge

Well, he was doin’ lines and crossin’ all of mine

Someone told his white collar crimes to the FBI

And I don’t dress for villains or for innocents, on my vigilante s**t again

Some people even pointed out that Taylor mentions the woman in the song driving a Mercedes Benz – and Kim owns the same type of car.

‘She looks so pretty drivin’ in your Benz / Lately she’s been dressin’ for revenge,’ she sings.

In March, Kim gave Vogue an inside look at her massive car collection, and she claimed her Mercedes-Maybach S-Class was her favorite.

She was even seen driving in a Benz with her new boyfriend Pete weeks later.

On March 21, photographers caught Pete picking the Kardashians star up from the airport in the fancy sports car – which marked one of their first outings as a couple.

After the song’s premiere, listeners quickly took to Twitter to share their thoughts, and many were in agreement that the song was about the Kardashian-Wests.

‘Vigilante S**t is 110 per cent about Kim, no one can tell me different,’ one person wrote.

Another agreed: ‘The ‘ex-wife’ in Vigilante S**t, I’m quite convinced is a reference to Kim.’

‘Is Vigilante S**t about Taylor and Kim teaming up to get revenge against Kanye because oh my God,’ said someone else.

‘I wonder if Kim Kardashian is blasting Vigilante S**t right now,’ read a fourth tweet.

A fifth said, ‘Me listening to Vigilante S**t and immediately Googling if Kim Kardashian drives a Benz (she does).’

‘Vigilante S**t has got to be about Taylor be-friending Kim and getting revenge on Kanye,’ insisted another Twitter user.

A different person tweeted, ‘Kim’s gonna be blasting Vigilante S**t all across Calabasas, I just know it.’

‘As someone who considers themselves good at analysis and up to date with pop culture, Vigilante S**t just feels like it’s about Kim Kardashian and Kanye, I could talk about it forever,’ wrote someone else.

‘Picture me thick as thieves with your ex-wife’: Are Kim and Taylor friends now – after a decade-long feud?

The line, ‘Picture me thick as thieves with your ex-wife,’ has left many people with one major question – if the song is about Kim and Kanye, does this mean the singer is now friends with the model?

Taylor’s feud with Kim and Kanye first started more than 10 years ago, when the Stronger artist jumped on stage and interrupted her acceptance speech after she won the award for Best Female Video at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

‘Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time,’ he said. ‘One of the best videos of all time.’

The awkward moment led to a years-long battle between the two stars, which got worse when Kanye released a song called Famous which included a line that said, ‘I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex Why? I made that b***h famous.’

After he dropped his song in 2016, Kanye soon started to get backlash for the line, but he insisted that Taylor had given her seal of approval on it before the song came out – which she denied.

Following a long back-and-forth between the two stars, Kim eventually stepped in and posted a snippet of a previous phone call between Kanye and Taylor that she had recorded without Taylor’s knowledge to her Snapchat account, which seemingly showed Taylor calling the line a ‘compliment.’

After its premiere, listeners quickly took to Twitter to share their thoughts, and many were in agreement that the song was about the Kardashian-Wests

‘It’s like a compliment,’ she said. ‘I never would’ve expected you to, like, tell me about a line in your song.

‘I mean, I don’t think anybody would listen to that and be like, “Oh, that’s a real diss.” You gotta tell the story that way that it happened to you and the way you experienced it.

‘If people ask me about it, look, I think it would be great for me to be like, “He called me and told me before it came out — Joke’s on you, guys. We’re fine.”‘

‘Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me “that bitch” in his song? It doesn’t exist because it never happened,’ Taylor then responded in a post to her Instagram.

‘You don’t get to control someone’s emotional response to being called “that bitch” in front of the entire world.’

In March 2020, however, the entire, 25-minute video of their phone call somehow made its way onto the internet, and it showed that Kim had heavily edited the version she had shared years earlier – and proved that Taylor did not hear the line in which Kanye referred to her as a ‘b***h.’

Another fan theory: Taylor hits out at old manager Scooter Braun in the song…

‘Someone told his white collar crimes to the FBI’: Braun is facing a $200 million lawsuit involving a private equity firm

While many are convinced that Vigilante S**t is about Kim and Kanye, others have identified a different possible culprit – Scooter Braun and his ex-wife, Yael Cohen, who announced they were going their separate ways in December.

‘Woah. Taylor ended Scooter’s marriage. No doubt,’ wrote one Twitter user while discussing the song.

‘Vigilante S**t is such a bop. It’s really giving, “Scooter Braun f**ked me over so I f**ked his wife” and I’m dying,’ said someone else.

‘Vigilante S**t is a Scooter Braun diss track, you can literally not convince me otherwise,’ agreed another person.

A different listener asked: ‘Is Vigilante S**t her telling us she masterminded Scooter’s divorce?’

‘Taylor really said, “Yeah, I helped your wife leave you and she looked hot asf doing it” to Scooter in Vigilante S**t,’ joked another person.

Some have pointed out that Taylor mentions the man in the song being outed to the ‘FBI’ for ‘his white collar crimes,’ and that Scooter was involved in a $200 million legal dispute in June 2021.

‘Well, he was doin’ lines and crossin’ all of mine / Someone told his white collar crimes to the FBI / And I don’t dress for villains / Or for innocents / On my vigilante s**t again,’ she sings.

Businessman Peter Comisar filed a lawsuit against Scooter, claiming the music mogul – who manages artists like Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, and Demi Lovato – repudiated his financial commitments and stopped paying his salary after they launched a private equity firm together.

As for Swift and Scooter, they have a rocky past of their own. In 2019, news hit the web that the manager had purchased her old record label for $300 million, which meant he now owned the rights to all of her old songs.

At the time, the Lover songstress said she was blindsided by the news, and accused Scooter of ‘incessant, manipulative bullying.’

‘Some fun facts about today’s news: I learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world,’ she wrote.

‘All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years.’

Taylor has since re-recorded many of her old songs, and Scooter eventually sold them to an investment firm called Shamrock Holdings for $405 million.

There is also speculation among listeners that she revealed Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ fourth baby name as Daisy May on a song titled, You’re On Your Own, Kid.

Song One: Lavender Haze

An upbeat R&B opener and love song about tuning out marriage rumours to appreciate her relationship, it was inspired by a line she heard on AMC’s Mad Men and establishes the LP’s overall vintage musical tone from the mid-80s.

Song Two: Maroon

Over a slow synthesised beat that erupts into an electronic chorus, Taylor’s voice is evocative of Stevie Nicks. The song is a remembrance of a previous love, whose ‘lips I used to call home’.

Song Three: Anti-Hero

In an ABBA-esque track, Taylor admits she’s never delved ‘this far into my insecurities’, adding, ‘It’s me, I’m the problem’ in the deep-thinking song.

Song Four: Snow On The Beach (featuring Lana Del Rey)

Taylor, revelling in the heat of love, sings, ‘My smile is like I won a contest.’ It is a song about love fate and how ‘strange but f***ing wonderful’ it is, and is accompanied by strings.

Song Five: You’re On Your Own, Kid

Taylor’s voice crescendos when she realises she is being gaslighted and that friends may let you down, accompanied by lovely intertwining guitars.

Listeners have also speculated that she revealed close friends Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ fourth baby name as Daisy May on the track. She sings, ‘I see the great escape, so long, Daisy May / I picked the petals, he loves me not.’

The Gossip Girl star revealed her pregnancy in September as she showed off her baby bump at the 10th Annual Forbes Power Women’s Summit at Jazz at Lincoln Center in NYC.

Song Six: Midnight Rain

Taylor is the self-confessed guilty one this time, ending a relationship because ‘he wanted it comfortable, I wanted that pain.’ Taylor pitches drops her vocals down to duet with herself in Frank Ocean fashion.

Couple: Taylor and Joe are pictured in 2019 in New York City

Song Seven: Question…?

‘Did you ever have someone kiss you in a crowded room and everyone was making fun of you, but then 15 seconds later they were clapping you?’ Taylor wonders in the song’s lyrics.

Song Eight: Vigilante Sh*t

Taylor plays a seductress threatening an ex while ‘dressing for revenge,’ a short but techno-infused number. ‘Think of me as thick as thieves with your ex-wife.’

Song Nine: Bejeweled

The singer tells the story of how a relationship ended because ‘familiarity breeds disdain’, proving to her former lover that she is still capable of making ‘the whole area shine’.

Song 10: Labyrinth

She explores the vulnerability and peril of falling for someone while singing, ‘Oh oh, I’m falling in love.’

Could it be? There is also speculation among listeners that she revealed Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' fourth baby name as Daisy May on a song titled, You're On Your Own, Kid

Song 11: Karma

Fare are convinced this is the namesake track to an album previously planned for a 2016 release following a fallout with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West over her reference as ‘that b***h’ in Famous.

However, in her own words. Taylor told Apple Music: ‘Karma is written from a perspective of feeling like really happy really proud of the way you life is, feeling like this must be a reward for doing stuff right and it’s a song that I really love because I think we all need some of those moments you know we can’t just be beating ourselves up all the time. You have to have these moments where you’re like you know what karma is my boyfriend and that’s it.’

Taylor’s beef with Kanye began when he invaded the stage during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards when she was honored for Video of the Year.

Then, in 2016, Kanye dropped the song Famous which included the lyric: ‘I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that b***h famous.’

Taylor was upset over the lyric but Ye claimed he had spoken to Swift and she gave the song her blessing. Kim hit back at Taylor, calling her a ‘snake’ for claiming she had ‘no idea’ Kanye would call her a ‘b****’ in the song.

She has previously spoken about the extreme ‘isolation’ she felt and the attacks she endured in the weeks after Kim likened her to a ‘snake’.

The bad blood between the Kardashian-Wests and the Shake It Off songstress worsened after audio from a phone call between Ye and Taylor discussing the song was leaked.

Several versions of the call came out with both sides accusing the other of editing or manipulating it.

Song 12: Sweet Nothing

Written alongside her boyfriend Joe, under the pseudonym William Bowery, the ballad features the lyrics: ‘All that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing.’

Song 13: Mastermind

‘Check mate, I couldn’t lose,’ Taylor sings on the song, while acknowledging her ability to perceive love ‘by design’ because ‘I’m a mastermind, now you’re mine.’
