Teacher, 38, jailed for stripping and assaulting girl, 17

Percy Chikobvu, 38, a former assistant headteacher, has been jailed for 14 months for attacking a 17-year-old girl

A ‘vile and disgusting’ teacher who sexually assaulted a teenager after a night out in Cambridge has been jailed.

Percy Chikobvu, 38, a former assistant headteacher at Gretton School, Cambridge, was found guilty of pulling down a 17-yer-old girl’s jeans as she slept and then kissing her on the left buttock and hip.

The victim, who is not connected to the school, had been staying at Chikobvu’s home when the attack took place.

She said she woke in the middle of the night to find her jeans had been removed while she was asleep.

Chikobvu’s DNA was then found in the places she claimed he kissed her.

Chikobvu, of Fox Covert, Sudbrooke, near Lincoln, denied the charges but was found guilty after a trial at Peterborough Crown Court.

The victim said when she woke up and found Chikobvu on her, she ‘booted him and sent him sprawling across the floor.

In a statement given to the judge and read to the jury, she said: ‘ I am 17 years old. You are vile and disgusting.’

He was sentenced to 14 months in jail. He will serve half the sentence, and then the rest while out on licence.

Chikobvu was also issued a five-year restraining order meaning he cannot contact the victim or go within 50 metres of her.

John Farmer, prosecuting, submitted an application for deportation but Judge Hawkesworth concluded this was not appropriate.

The court was told Chikobvu has been suspended from his job as a result of the case, and has had to take work as a pizza delivery driver in Lincoln.

He has also been subjected to a curfew.

Prosecuting, John Farmer, said: ‘She [the victim] says she was asleep and she woke up to find he had taken down her trousers and pants and was in the process of kissing her buttock.

‘She says he had also loosened her bra. ‘The victim was particularly vulnerable because of her personal circumstances.

‘Because of drink and drugs, she was unable to know much about it.’

Emma Rance, defending, said Chikobvu was not in a position of trust as far as sexual offences are concerned.

She accepts he is some years older than his victim, but notes he was not in the position of being a ‘self-appointed guardian’.

Judge Hawkesworth: ‘To be perfectly frank, someone working as an assistant head of a school should be of reasonable intelligence.

‘He should have known what he did was wrong and is wrong.

Addressing Chikobvu after the verdict, he added: ‘It is perfectly apparent to me that you found her attractive.

‘You went to a bar where a considerable amount of alcohol was drunk, not necessarily by her, but by you.

‘In any event, having met and consumed large quantities of alcohol, further alcohol was purchased and you retired to your own home.

‘Various others turned up. Whether it was her choice or not, cannabis was smoked.

‘You then alleged to the jury that you had no idea she had gone upstairs to your room to sleep.

‘She was a 17-year-old and I am quite satisfied that your attempts to avoid this coming before the jury were lies.

‘You knew perfectly well. When you woke, you took the opportunity of going upstairs, took advantage of the situation and sexually assaulted her by undoing her bra and trying to take down her trousers and pants.

‘It was only her courage and forceful behaviour that brought the situation to an end when she kicked you off the bed.’
