Florida elementary school teacher Xavier Alexander, 27, has been charged with of solicitation of a minor and traveling to meet a minor

A Florida elementary school teacher moonlighting as a babysitter has been accused of soliciting a two-year-old child on a nanny website and then traveling to meet the toddler. 

Xavier Alexander, 27, from Palm Beach, was arrested on Thursday on charges of solicitation of a minor and traveling to meet a minor, both felonies. 

Alexander was booked into the Palm Beach County jail just before 9pm without bond. He was scheduled to make his first court appearance on Friday morning.  

According to a statement from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Alexander is a fourth-grade teacher at Grove Park Elementary School.

The 27-year-old also has been working on the side as a babysitter on Care.com and other similar websites offering childcare services.

Investigators have not disclosed additional details pertaining to the case but said they believe there could be additional victims. 

According to Alexander’s LinkedIn profile, he has worked at Palm Beach County School District since 2012 in various capacities, including as an afterschool counselor, activity leader and director.

A graduate of Palm Beach State College, Alexander was hired as a full-time teacher at Grove Park Elementary School only six months ago. 

District officials released a statement early Friday, saying they were cooperating with the investigation, reported Sun-Sentinel.

‘The District is shocked and appalled by the nature of the crimes for which Alexander was arrested,’ the statement read. ‘He will not be returning to the School District as a teacher, or in any other capacity, pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.’

It went on to say that while the case did not involve any district students, officials have reached out to parents of children in Alexander’s class.

The district has now launched its own professional standards investigation into Alexander. 

Miami Herald reported that Alexander wrote in his Care.com profile that he has been working with children for over a decade in schools, youth ministries and kids’ clubs. He was open to babysitting up to three children, including infants.
