A Florida teacher is planning to press charges against a nine-year-old girl who punched her in the hand after being told to pick up a book she had thrown.

The third grade teacher at Woodward Avenue Elementary School in DeLand has already filed a report with the sheriff’s department.

The teacher, who hasn’t been identified, has accused the student of hitting her after the girl threw a text book on the classroom floor.

The student had been told to pick up the book when she lashed out at the teacher.

The third grade teacher at Woodward Avenue Elementary School in DeLand, Florida has already filed a report with the sheriff’s department

According to the sheriff’s report, the student refused to obey the teacher and ‘punched her in the right hand’.

Even though the teacher didn’t require medical attention, she still wants to press charges against the girl, KRCA reports.

It is not the first time the student has allegedly become physical with school staff, according to the report.

The teacher is in her first year with Volusia County schools.

‘There are no other professions that exist where it would be OK or acceptable to be hit by anyone,’ Volusia United Educators president Elizabeth Albert said.

‘We should have folks looking at our kids who are in crisis and determining what interventions are going to make them successful.’

The school is looking into the incident but refused to say whether the student was facing disciplinary action.
