Scott Brash and his horse Jefferson produced a superb run to see Team GB claim an unexpected gold medal in the equestrian team jumping final at the Chateau de Versailles.

Brash’s collected one penalty point in his run and finished with a time of 79.54 seconds which was enough to see Britain finish ahead of the United States and hosts France.

The trio- consisting of Brash, Harry Charles and Ben Maher – incurred only two penalties during the final. 

By contrast, France dropped into the bronze medal position after Julien Epaillard picked up four penalty points, putting them on a total of seven alongside the Netherlands.

The USA’s McLain Ward secured the silver for his team on board his horse ILEX, with a solid time of 76.57seconds in a penalty-less third round.

The heroics of the British quartet has seen Team GB climb into the top three of the overall medal table with a total of nine gold medals, the same as the US and only three behind China. 

The victory comes 12 years after the trio claimed gold in front of the home crowd at the London Olympic Games.
