Team USA’s Charlie McAvoy was reportedly sent to the hospital during his nation’s loss to Sweden in the 4 Nations Face-Off.

The 27-year-old, who plays for the Bruins, picked up an infection from a minor injury, according to the Boston Globe and Daily Faceoff.

He did not play against Sweden and it remains unclear whether he will return in time for Thursday’s championship game against rivals Canada.

McAvoy is an alternate captain for Team USA and he went viral during last week’s victory over Canada after crushing Connor McDavid with a huge hit.

Coach Mike Sullivan – the 27-year-old’s father-in-law – said he missed the Sweden game with an ‘upper-body injury’.

Heading into the much-anticipated rematch with Canada, Team USA also faces injury issues involving Matthew Tkachuk, Brady Tkachuk and Auston Matthews.
